Any photographers in here?

ah interesting technique. i must try this too when it gets warmer lol. majority of the time, do u use bare naked flashes (tehehe) or ur umbrella?

I'd say that bare flashes are best for the side where you might get a direct reflection from the flash/umbrella. For 3/4 shots and shots from the front umbrellas are probably the way to go. YMMV, depending on the car and amount of ambient light.

It's called light painting. It's gotta be pitch black outside.

I've used both umbrella and bare and I like bare better. Mainly because the light doesnt' get eaten up too much by the umbrellas.
All you gotta do is figure out an angle where the lights wont show up in the reflection from where you are shooting. It's all about angles

I've never tried it but it would seem that a shoot thru umbrella would diffuse the light and spread it over a wider area, so even though it's not as powerful, more of the subject is exposed (with softer light, too).

word. i needa try some shots when it gets warmer and include some pix of the setup too so yall can help me move in the right direction :D

Maybe i need to fool around more. I'll see if I can dig up some pics of umbrellas vs bare. I know I have some.

lol you guys go a little crazy on the saturation for my taste. Other than that, those HDR shots are amazing.

I posted this in the Fake HDR thread but I'm gonna put this one here as well.. This is my dad taking a break from a hike we were doing on last year's Father's Day.
