i know when you first buy your car, your not supposed to go past 60mph until you reach 1000 miles on your car. has any one not break in their car correctly? (freak) I reved my car all te way to 6000 RPMs when i only had 250 miles! (dance)

roll it like u stole it foO. -=P now hand over the turbo kit an no one has to get hurt. -=P

My owner's manual didn't say anything about a break in and my Mazda tech said that they dyno all the motors from the factory.

Good nuff for me! I drove the piss out of it from day one. Pulled a smokey burnout right from the dealer lot. :D

That's what warranties are for, right??

It is a good idea to break in your motor, but going over 60mph is not the problem. When you are doing a break in the idea is to vary your revs, not going consistently at 60, vary it to 65 down to 50. You have definitely not hurt your motor by revving it to 6000rpm a few times (or more). I also know people that run the s*** out of their motor for about 500 miles, change the oil, and call it good- and they have never had a problem either... That's usually off of a built motor though- and they do oil changes based on shop reccommendations- 500 miles, 1000 miles, 2500 miles, and 5000 miles. Then just follow the normal maintenence schedule..

i didnt break in my motor and had to replace it at 30k. they covered it under warranty and if i had it to do over i wouldnt change anything

I just drove to San Diego(1000 miles round trip) on my new engine. 4500 rpms for 8 hours can't be good, but ProtegeFest wasn't gonna wait!

Really? That makes me feel so much better. I was cracking 100mph and redlining at only 300 miles. :D

lol with my temper... i'd be redlining on the way home... lol.

breaking it in = varys rev? i thought it was not to go past a certain rpm?
or is it both?

Trying to remember as I don't have it with me, but I think My manual had a break in period of 600 miles - nothing about going over 60 mph, and as shinzen said, it recommended not going at one speed, but to vary.

keep the load down on the engine

IE: rev it more when its warmed up instead of lugging it up hills
