Any news on the 2014 models?

I am exactly the opposite; I see no need for the extra gadgets in the Touring, would like to save a little by not getting them but would like the 2.5L ...

IMO, Mazda took the approach for creating highest volume demand for it's CX-5 and so far (since introduction in Feb. 2012) it has worked very well. But of course I do respect that a small number of buyers would see like to see configurations not offered, even if I understand why Mazda made certain choices.

GT CX-5 is a unique and lucrative niche (well-done Mazda), it has many of the attributes of much more expensive premium compact SUV's such as Evoque, GLK, X3, A5 but with better reliability and economy. The 2.5L GT comparison to premium compact SUVs only gets better.

I heard or read that the 2.5L engine will only be offered on AWD models. Anyone confirm this? I was hoping for a FWD GT 2.5. Ed

Press release said both versions of 2.5L GT were to be available (FWD, AWD), auto tranny only.

I've read that the 2.0 will still be available for the touring and gt though. Sorry if this is common knowlege, havent read every post.

Ive heard both. That the 2.0 will be available in T and GT, and that it wont. Hopefully we can find out before the 2013s are gone.

From the press release: "The SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine and SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission are standard fare on Touring models."

And the press release does not mention any engine related changes when talking about the Grand Touring trim.

Seems quite clear to me. If you want the 2.0 L, get it soon.

Thank you for providing that. I may very well just have to get the car a few months earlier than I wanted. Was just hoping to have one more debt paid off before then. Maybe I can get a great deal on a remaining 2013 to make it worth it.

Hi, I'm new.

I was ready to go test drive - and likely buy - a CX-5 GT with nav this week, until I read about the 2014 coming out.
See this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHBCZFFWHSA around the 50 - 56 second time frame. the GT and Touring will only have the 2.5L engine - according to this rep from Mazda at the LA Auto show.

I probably don't need the 2.5, but I see there will be updates to navigation - and I am hoping that might mean Garmin instead of Tom Tom? Does Tom Tom have the traffic feeds? Also looking for Pandora built in.

I'm still test driving this week to confirm, then I will have the mental gymnastics of the 2013 v. 2014 considerations.
FYI I was ready to buy the Honda CRV but I can't stand how they upholstered their leather seats. I never thought something seemingly trivial would be a player in my decisions, but it is. I've seen the CR-5 on the road a lot lately, and it's gorgeous. Looking at all the specs, I'm seriously impressed. Now, to reconcile 2013 or 2014 because I'm sure I'm going to love it in the test drive. :-)

The CX-5 will continue to have the Tom Tom system which does relay traffic information and according to the welcome screen on the navigation, updates are free via tomtom.com. I have found it useful in my CX-5. The 2014 will also have Pandora built in.

I'm curious to see just how much quicker the 2.5L is.

In the real world, the 2.0L will get you to your destination at the same instant as the 2.5L.

The only valid reason to wait for the 2.5L would be for towing or roof hauling (such as one of those sports pods). As fun as it is to drive, I can't imagine anyone choosing a CX-5 as their track vehicle.

I might also consider the larger engine if I was car pooling (four large adults) on fast highways over the 10,000+ foot mountain passes of the Rocky Mountains. The 2.5L wouldn't get me to my destination any sooner but it might allow me to use a higher gear and less rpm's.

My understanding of the press release is that T and GT will come with 2.5L and this engine will be paired only with AT. The Sport trim will come only with the 2.0L.

Yes, I am planning to take the family + skiing gear up the Sierra and would like the extra power. I think its only up to 8500 ft, but I can certainly feel it with my current naturally aspirated vehicle. Granted, for regular commuting there seems to be only the disadvantage of unnecessary additional cost. I guess the non-abstemious among us, who would not get the Sport trim anyway, will get the 2.5L as a package deal, unless we act quickly.

That's also my understanding of the 2.5L being AT only on T and GT.

If you are really concerned about power at high altitude, a turbo engine like the 1.6L/2.0L in Escapes will have much less power loss and should be considered. The power loss at high altitude (6000+ feet) for normally aspirated engines is huge.
