Any Missouri people here?

i know where boeing is located off 270 and mcd., but what's the deal? i will pm him.
Uh, just show up, 9:30 if you want to do runs, they build courses, 10 bucks for 6 runs? Free to watch.

Welcome to the site. I drive a blacked out 3.

By the way for everyone, wrecked it this morning. I officially hate 21 year old hot blondes that don't know how to drive. Got an estimate, 2 grand ish. Just thought I'd let you all know. I should be running in the first Autocrosse, just got new tires, ready to break them in!

Basically you pay $10 and spend about 5-6 hours autocrossing and running the course for others.

It's a good time and you get to see some pretty sweet cars. You learn that you're not nearly the driver you thought you were.
And I'm ready to learn that. I need a helmet though... Hmm. Anyone got a used one?

i see 3's and ms3's all over the place. i always want to do the 'official mazda hand-signal' but i am usually driving with my hair on fire.

thanks for the info.

You should hit up Craigslist. People are selling stuff stupid cheap right now.

What brand of helmet were you talking about on Saturday? I am looking for one so I dont have to borrow anymore.
Also wanted to tell you thanks again for helping me on Saturday with the plugs. I am learning more and more from all you guys and my wife hates it(inout)

No problem! I'm glad to help. I haven't had anyone to tinker with in quite a while.

HJC was the helmet maker. I paid like $50-60 in 2003 for their entry level helmets. It was all I had for a while.

If you're looking for high quality, go with an Arai or Shoei, but those are probably overkill for autocross.

What do you think of Hawk? I've found a few that look nice for 50-60 but I'm not sure of comfortability or safety/quality.

Thanks Chris. I would say you can tinker with me anytime, but that would be wrong.(dunno)

Arai helmets are insane. I work in auto insurance claims and I just paid a dude $800 bucks to replace his for his motorcycle. I don't know much about helmets but that thing must have been top of the line.

Yea, the Shoei (for my motorcycle also) I've got was a little over $1,100 when I bought it; but that was 5 years ago.

A lot of people will spend all of their money on a bike and then realize they still need gear. That's what happened to me at first. Shortly thereafter I realized I needed to be protecting myself more than I was and that skimping on cheap gear was not the wisest choice.

In autocross, you're not really going to be concerned with comfort too much. If you were doing an endurance race, or this was an every weekend thing, I would be concerned about it. However, the fact of the matter is, you're only going to be wearing it for 90 seconds at a time. The reason you're wearing it is too make sure you don't hit the A/B pillars or the steering wheel with your grape.

The $50-60 helmets are just fine for the autocross arena provided the viewing area is unobstructed. I recommend you go to an ATV/Motorcycle Apparel store/dealer and try some on to see what you like. Then go home and see if the price the store was offering is comparable to what you can get online. Hell, I do that with everything I buy.

Are Bell helmets any good, or Hawk? Does it matter if it is a motorcycle helmet or street? One last question, if I decide to do Autocross at Gateway, do they just require a DOT approved helmet?
