Any Ideas???

2007 MS3
I have a 2007 MS3 with the MS CAI. I have not had any problems with the car until Monday afternoon. I was driving to pick up my daughter and the engine light came on. I steped on the gas and the car was bucking pretty badly for a minute, then took off. Almost everytime I got into boost, the car would buck back and forth. I tried to see what the code was with my aeroforce scanguage, but it would not give me a code. I took it to the dealership that night and the next day they said it was the high pressure fuel pump. They said it would be ready today, they had to order the part. I called them this afternoon and they are stating the car is still not fixed. They stated it might be the maf, then stated something about the air straightener. I do have the part, but it has been really cold, so I have not put it in. I will be taking the straightener to them tonight, and hopefully they will have the car fixed tomorrow.
The thing is, I have had the intake on for over 17,000 miles and have had no problems. What else could be causing this issue. I do not think it has anything to do with the intake, but I could be wrong.

Any ideas???

Honestly, without knowing the code, this is a crapshoot. Could be a vac leak, could be the MAF... I think your next step is just wait and see if the air straightener fixes it. I don't think it was ever officially announced, but the consensus is the MS CAI was stop-saled for this reason.

Forgot the a/f ratios are all over the place too. They were sticking around 29 then down to 8 then normal between 12 and 14. Went by the dealership and they said if the straightener does not fix it, then they will try the o2 sensor. I say it is the o2 sensor, but what do I know?(confused)

mine did the same exact thing. mine was the a/f mixture sensor. then they stripped the threads at the dealership and had to fix that too

not trying to be a smart ass (which is rare)... but have you changed the fuel filter lately?

i had one acting like that (not the speed) and i changed the fuel filter, and it cleared it right up...

that wasnt the case with mine but im not sure about his. my car was about 8 months old when it happened, and no problem since

I have not checked that. I usually have all maintenance done at the dealer. I do not have much time or a garage to do my own maintenance. I am guessing the dealer checked that, but probably not.

dumb question alert!!!!

Is that different than the 02 sensor?

ehh...typically, as far as i know-

they call the secondary an o2, which is a 1v range narrow band sensor, then they call the primary sensor a wide band air fuel ratio sensor or something like that.

semantics...just semantics.

you can't just "check" the fuel filter, it's either in with the tank or part of the fuel pump assembly. i was told this by a tech and also just looked at the diagrams.

i agree the problem is tough to solve when you're codeless

I meant to say I have not checked on that. Like I said before, I do not do my own maintenance. The dealer did not mention anything about the fuel filter, and it has not been replaced. The car has about 32000 miles on it now. I will check with the dealer tomorrow to see what they say.

You are right to say it is hard without a code. Every other time I have had a problem, my scanguage pulled the code for me.

Thank you all for your responses. I was just trying to see if maybe someone else had a similar problem.(dunno)

really? no external fuel filter?

so i can't change the fuel filter?

not doing this maint. item will be a first for me, if this is the case... hmmmmm.......

when solving problems.. even with the new cars, i always hit the easy items first... the things that could go wrong on any engine.. old habits, i guess. missing? open the hood at night, look for a plug wire arcing.. or change a cap and rotor, and plugs... hesitation? change the fuel filter, hook up a vacuum gauge... look at the k&n, etc. so many things have changed... no more plug wires in some cars... or cap and rotor... now they are taking my fuel filter away???

That is what I was thinking too. The dealer will put in the straightener today (which I do not think will work). If it does not work, they will have to order the o2 sensor. So I will not get my car back until Friday night at the earliest :'(. The worst part is I am driving a ford focus. The focus is such a slow car, and bright red.

Got my car back tonight. After replacing the fuel pump, 02 sensor and cigarette lighter (broke for some reason), car is running better than ever. Thanks to everyone who replied with ideas.
