i am in the prosess of designing an "inexpensive" set of hardpipes that will use the stock bpv and stock intake system. so, yes you will be able to use the injen and other intakes that work with the stock ic pipes. these pipes will be made of mild steel, and before you say it, iknow, aluminum and ss is better. they are also more money. i am not saying that these will be the "best" but they will give the people that dont have the $$ for the expensive pipes a choice to get them. i will be offering them i a few differnt colors (powdercoated) most likely blue, silver and black. they will be also available "raw", non-coated, so you can send them out to be coated how ever you want. estimated piceing as of now is $250 colored and $200 raw..i will keep this thread updated as i get parts done...

I have a hard time picturing what "mild steel" looks like. Is it like what midas and those places use on exhaust pipes?

Good luck with your hardpipe's man! i wish they where out right now:(

Quick question... when you powdercoat it, will it be inside and out? I wonder how this affects the airflow, or is it not enough to really matter? Also, why is the aluminum (or whatever they use) better than what you got? Heat dissapation? (sp)

just wanted to get updates. looking forward to hearing progress. it seem's as though everyone else who has said they are going to make a hardpipe kit has dissappered.

byohndspeed - just a word of advice, if you're making it out of mild steel, have them coated! Heat and moisture will cause the interior of the pipes to have surface corrosion, this corrosion under boost conditions will eventually flake off and cause extra restriction in the intercooler.

Yes...definitely keep us updated. Everyone who I have spoken to about the pipes is givine me the run-around. I spoke to one company that wants over $500 for mild steel (because it is a one-off kit). Another company won't even do it because it is not worth it for them as a one time deal. As far as the companies on this Forum offering them, I only know one still offering it, and they want $400 without a flange. That means I still have to take my HKS flange to an exhaust shop and have them weld it on. My last option is to go to a shop I heard of in Huntington Beach area (SoCal), and see if he can make them for me if I provide the plastic pipes for him to measure and reproduce for a day. He said he did it for a dude with an STi. I am about to give up if something doesn't happen soon. Thanks!

ok just to keep you updated..i have the "prototypes" done so i can make a jig for these pipes. i have been working alot these past 2 weeks and havent had much time, but i have the next 2 weeks off so i should be able to get a functional kit done and tested in the next week.and start on production in the next 2 weeks...i'll keep you posted..sorry for the delays
