Another rant at Dealer....

Took my car to the dealer today to have a whole list of things fixed. Here's what they told me:

Pulls to left...sorry, that's normal for this car.

Rear swaybar bushings shot...sorry, they look normal to us.

Loud valvetrain ticking noise....that's normal for this car.

Loose body molding...that's normal for this car, but we'll fix it out of courtesy.

Alarm is freaking out...adjusted sensitivity to minimum, all fixed now....we'll see.

I can't believe this crap. I take time off of work, drive 35 miles to the dealer, and they give me this bulls***. This is the second time I've had it in for the rear bushings, and they say there's nothing wrong with them. The engine has a tick that you can hear from 20 feet away with the hood closed!
:wtf:

This car has only 6000 miles on it and the engine sounds like it has 160,000 miles. Sorry for the rant, but I'm so ******* pissed right now. The next closest dealer is an hour drive from me, but I guess they'll be getting my business from now on.

sounds fine
pull to left=performance tires/crowned road. or torque steer
rear bushings= are they clunking? it WILL look normal!
alarm=they did something they could
loose molding= front bumper? that comes loose- bad design
valvetrain ticking= turbo related stuff.

have you owned a TURBO car before?

I know how you feel, I bought my car from a deal that is an hour away because they were the only mazda place that would sell the MS Protege. It sucks, I hate driving an hour just to have service work done. I feel for ya.

Matt

NOTHING IS wrong with the bushings. they are Fine, not worn, etc!! you have to tell them they CLUNK and its a KNOWN problem and you want E series bushings.

are they clunking in the first place?!
if you have 6000miles and live in cali i doubt they even clunk

the only reason to change bushings if IF they CLUNK

PD- Mine clunked at 5000 miles

I've owned many turbo cars and own two of them currently....

Regardless of whether s*** is common for a turbo car the point is the s*** is under warranty and should run like the day it was pulled off the lot or close there to it

A tick you can hear 20 feet away from the car IS NOT normal.

Loose body molding might be common for this car but Mazda needs to fix it for you as it's covered in your warranty.

Everything he said should be fixed by Mazda regardless if it's expected or common. Don't give him s*** because mazda hasn't done its job.

can u describe this "tick" u hear?

You could barley hear my engine till about 2nights ago, all the sudden it started to make a tick tick tick sound....not like piston slap but maybe something with the valve timming....im takin it in 2morrow morning to get it looked at and some window molding replaced.

I ask because I wont let them tell me its normal unless you guys think it is...its pretty loud and just started out of nowhere.

A ticking valvetrain is "turbo related stuff"?

Yes, it does have the "clunk", has had it since before the first time I took it in. Obviously it's not loud enough for them to fix it yet....I guess it needs to sound like bowling balls rolling around in the trunk before they'll fix it, right?

If you have ever heard a pushrod engine with a collapsed lifter, you know what I'm talking about. You can only hear it at idle.
The service tech that listened to the tick when I was there this morning said "Damn, that's loud. Sounds like the valves need to be adjusted". When they told me it's normal over the phone this evening, I said, what about the comment your service guy said? "Oh, he's just a junior technician, he's still learning. Our master technician listened to it and said it's normal. The car wasn't making the noise when I bought it, and the other two speeds that were there for service didn't sound that way either. Do I need to make them start up every Mazdaspeed on the lot to prove that it's not normal?

You can take your car to any Mazda dealer and they must do the work.

Hmmm I'd think its the lifters...They prob just dont wanna do a $1500 lifter replacement...thats if its the worse...it could be valve lash adjustment like the guy said...tell them to fix it or you'll take it elsewhere and if thats the problem tell em ur gonna complain to Mazda USA and give em 0 for ratings.

No, I have a tick sound as well from day one. Its the device right on top of the throttle body. I think thats normal however, dont quote me on that.

i dont think its just turbos. my damn protege sounds like the wheel of fortune.

Mine ticks too but there's no WAY you can here it from 20ft away on my car. I didn't even notice it until "Emode" pointed it out to me when we met up. I'd do just as you mentioned -- tell them to PROVE that it is common by starting up another speed on the lot and seeing if it makes the ticking sound. I'll bet it doesn't - then you have them by the balls.

Dealers suck hind tit. My car has been clunking since mid summer and I haven't taken it in because it's a 2-hour drive 1 way and I'm sure they'd pull the same BS on me as they did to you. I was going to wait until it sounds like a whole ******* BOWLING ALLEY was set up in my trunk and then take it in -- and now with the cold temps that time has arrived. But I'm already dreading doing this whole battle over again in another 3000 miles. F-ing mazda.

I find it troublesome that these cars have exterior parts "glued"on... (shrug) Leave it to Mazda to put effort into gluing on parts for quarter year refreshers instead of fixing extensive and consistent design flaws with the bread and butter of the car... (meaning, MSP ECU, and mp3/msp clunk)

I have the "tick" too. Seems worse when the car is cold at idle. But is still there when it is warm. I popped the hood today, and stuck my ear to the top of the engine. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the valve train to me. Sounds like it MAYBE coming from the exhaust manifold area. Souds like the heat shield MIGHT be amplifying it. And no its not injector pulse. and doesn't really sound like an exhaust leak.

Thing is, the car runs strong. No drivability issues. but something just sounds off....

....maybe BLKZOOMZOOM could chime in here, he's a mazda tech.

Dont think so, I think it stops ticking as soon as I rev the motor, but its too loud to hear. This has got to be the loudest engine I've ever owned.
