2002 Mazda Protege5
How it going guys? i just got my first Mazda on friday, a 2002 MP5. I used to have a VW, so i'm new to the Mazda scene. I bought this Car with 70k miles, Intake, Aftermarket 18's, a Pioneer headunit, and an eclipse amp powering the mids and highs. I already installed my Mtx monoblock for my 2 12" Infinity Subs, and i plan on installing a new capacitor and getting some drops springs soon. Then it's on to a possible axleback exhaust. only one downfall...

It's automatic.

No a big deal, i'm not looking for a racecar or anything. I love the styling of this car, and it's a great cruiser. Looking forward to checking out all the mazdas and eventually going to some meets!

thanks guys! another thing, how does the MSP axle back sound? i want an axle back that doesnt sound too buzzy.. but dont wanna spend a few hundred on a big name one..

and yeah, i like the silver. I will probably keep it at this height for a while, since i rub just a little bit on the 18's. but sometime i think i'm gonna do 16's and slam it.

Welcome to the boards. There's a wealth of information and this place is an excellent way to kill time when you're bored or even when you have other things you should be doing (work, class, homework-I'm guilty of all 3 on a regular basis lol). Good people on here too. Enjoy your time, and your new ride.

Welcome! Very nice P5! Nice that it already came with goodies. Delete that roof rack, get a shorty antenna and your P5 will be super clean. Throw up some pic's of your audio stuff when you get it done. (In the right section of course...) Enjoy your stay and do your homework!!:)

welcome mate, nice looking P5 and i agree on the color :P good choice, only downfall is that autotragic, oh well :) enjoy it

+1

Guilty... im even on while driving and stopped at a traffic light of course...very addicting....

Welcome to the forums...

welcome! I agree, a drop would do nicely. Look into espelir springs for your p5 - a lot of members on this forum would agree that the espelir springs and tokico HP struts combo is the best for daily driving for our car.

As for the msp exhaust, might as well get the MSP catback and gain a few extra hp while you're at it. It's a nice step up from stock without going too loud. I've had mine for 3 years and I love it.

And like someone was saying above, if you want a cleaner ride, lose the roof rack for the roof rack filler strips (unless you're actually going to use the roof rack), get a shorty antenna, do the Mazda6 rear wiper mod, and blacken out the headlights. (look for painted headlights mod)

have fun!

Thanks for all the replys!

I'm planning on throwing up some pics of the audio stuff, i just finished it today. As for the roof racks, i'm still undecided about them... but i will look into those springs/tokicos.. and i really thought some nice projectors would look good on it, but i may just black them out.. i'm doing the foglight mod sometime this week/weekend.

Pics up possibly tomorrow!

welcome! If you want a exhaust that's not too buzzy go with the Racing Beat. The Mazdaspeed is nice, but a bit loud and drones at highway speeds (and you may be able to find it a bit cheaper) but the RB is the one to go with... better sound and quality IMO. good luck with the mods(rockon)

I was looking at the Racing beat the other day... But my main concern right now is the ride height... i hear alot of talk about espelir springs, and about the eibach prokit.. i'll probably just go with springs right now, maybe some tokico blues down the road... i just want a lower look, with stock like drivability... I know on my Old GTI, it rode so rough... I just want a little drop, not slammed to the ground either. Any ideas?

keep in mind that the "Mazdaspeed exhaust" Woody is referring to is the one from the dealership as the aftermarket Mazdaspeed performance exhaust. That one is loud and drones on the freeway.

The other "Mazdaspeed exhaust" is the racing beat catback, which was stock on the Mazdaspeed Protege. Completely different system, is only a step louder than stock, doesn't drone, and can be found for cheap on these forums usually. (The MSP catback exhaust tip just has to be shortened by 6" or so since the sedan is actually longer than the hatchback)

just for clarification... (butt)
