another new guy...want more hp!

the unichip....that's not the ebay chip/diod/resister thing is it? i've heard (and read) nothing but horror stories about them...but if there is a "unichip" that'll work, where can i check it out? i'd like to do some research on it before i get excited...

No, the unichip is a full engine management system. There is a reason it costs 100x as much.

Yep, different dyno, different day.

Oddly I haven't lost to another p5 or sedan with similar mods...

do the i/h/e, then think about a good clutch and fly set, so you don't lose as much hp from crank to wheel.

but boost will answer all your probs, except financial.

Well put it this way...the most done up naturally aspirated mazda FS-DE's (more than 20K) only put down 250hp, and wouldn't last more than 3 weekends of racing, so like 10K on the street or so. And wouldn't be very drivable at all. So going by the 250HP and stock 130, and using 20K, for you to get 50hp more N/A would cost $8333. Which is about right, though I think the higher HP N/A guys have put in more than that to get less than 50hp...

he uh has an auto, so no clutch or flywheel.

Intake/Header/Exhaust will help. Going with straight exhaust (no cats) will yield much more. Underdrive Pulley will also help you "free up" horsepower. After that, it gets expensive - cams, cam gears, engine management would probably be the next n/a steps. But you're right - if you turboed the car, and did it right, you'd probably be around 4-5k, maybe even more.

I have i/h/e and udp, and the car has noticeably changed. I highly doubt if it's 40hp, but it's at the point where I'm happy with it and it feels like it should have felt when it came from the factory.

yeah, once you start, it is hard to stop.......like having a girlfriend!

Yeah until you get in an accident, and then the money you spent on mods go bye bye.....A car is a terrible investment

$8333 (puke) even $5000 was huge....damn

well i guess i'll have to deal with max of 20HP in optimun conditions with the I/H/E and maybe the unichip once i check that whole deal out...

i knew that 40 - 50 HP was riddicullus to ask for my car (without killing it)
but i had to ask

thanks for all the great info, not only in this thread but throughout the forum...learnin' a lot

if you want a fast NA car... should've just bought an NA car with more HP.... don't waste your money making the 2.0L FSDE go fast (without going turbo, etc)... you can save that money, invest it, go on a trip or something...

well, i'm a musician and i was planning on taking my extra $ from gigs to pay for the mods...so its extra cash i usually spend on musical gear anyway...so i figured why not some car upgrades...$6G+/- is just too high...i'd feel too guilty...i think i could deal with $1 +/- though...

...until next time...sounds like mods are addicting...haha

let me know and i will be happy to help you out

Or do what I did, bought my 89 Country Squire and have a 300HP 5.0L for it, and all kinda of go fast goodies. Best of both worlds. Got my nice mildly done up P5, and I have a pretty darn quick sleeper wagon.

Musicians don't have extra money - everybody knows that!!! (I graduated with a BS in Music Industry).

Has anybody had experienced with Spark Plugs. Like iridiums...or something else??
For increased power? Don't bother. Iridium, like platinum plugs simply last longer. Other than that, no substaintial performance gain.

I prefer Iridium over platinum in boosted applications, because they don't have as much of a problem creating hot spots. I also found they run better than copper when going with a colder plug, since colder plugs tend to build up carbon faster, the iridiums stay cleaner longer.
