hey

well since i've now decided to stay NA and this is going to be my wife's car i want to upgrade the brakes

this is what i'm thinking of at the moment....the RR-Racing 12" conversion. $550usd + shipping ( http://www.rr-racing.com/bigbrakes.htm )
has anyone got this? pics? what do you think of it? did you get cross drilled or slotted? what pads are you using?

then the usual stainless steel lines all round, hawk pads etc. probably KVR rotors on the rear (get everything from 1 place is cheaper for shipping)

also, does anyone have pictures of cadmium plating? what are it's advantages appart from rust resistant? does it improve braking? does it wear off over time?

later

These are cad plated. The gold comes off the swept area - leaving the standard looking rotor cast iron colour.

If by cadmium plating they mean zinc-cad plating (which is the gold stuff in the attached photo) then yes it comes off the wearing surface. Buggered if I know what it does to initial braking performance as well!

Hmm, maybe I'm not trying hard enough (drive)

I got some wicked fade when I was bedding the pads - heaps of smoke as well! Since then I haven't had a show, and that is in 5 weeks with a twice weekly squirt.

Going to have to try harder now...

the cadmium plating is there to prevent rusting on the non-wear surfaces of the rotor. it wont do anything for the wear surface of it, and will be gone the first time you hit your brakes. and that part will still rust a little whenever your car sits for a day or two. There is nothing that can be done about this except just to drive your car and hit your brakes. it'll ust wear the rust right off, and the rest of your rotor will look god because its covered with Zink cadmium.

I know that I wish I had a set.

i have slotted rotors and hawk hp pads... they bite really nice. Now i just need to put on my SS brake lines.

twilight-on what ever rotors you end up getting, I'd suggest making sure you get the black cad plating. My rotors only rust on the braking surface, but the residue from the rust "creeps" along the edges where the plating and the braking surfaces meet. (see pic) I think it'll show up on all but the black. Paulmp3 has seemed to have good luck with his Rotoras, I think they may be my next choice when my Powerslots are worn out.

Andy I was a littl interested in that brake upgrade from RR as well...But I thought it seemed a bit over priced, being that it only has 2 12" rotors and 2 little metal brackets to relocate the caliper...Maybe not though, the rotors are 2 piece right? I would bet the bigger rotors will be lighter than the 10.2" stockers...

That would be an interesting thing to find out - the comparative weights.

My DBA slotteds came with a grey paint. See attached pic. Sorry about the size.

The bluing on the rotor was weird after bedding the pads - I don't think that I left the old pads on long enough with the rotors. The discolouration is now gone though.

yeah the rr is two peice...and yeah they probably are lighter - but the mass is further out so it's slightly detrimental. probably not even noticeable. the increase in braking would way out weigh the mass problem...

it's about right for an upsize rotor package like that. i was quote in australia $3000 for just front rotors and AP racing calipers (4 piston). the rr-racing package would be enough for wifey
