Ok, check this out!I think I got another bad motor in my MSP!:wtf: So I start my car up this morning to go to work ,and it's kinda cold outside and guess what?I got the it sounds like 85K mi. cold in the morning motor knock that goes away after a few seconds!:bs: This motor has less than 1K mi. on it and already its getting loud!I noticed right from the get go that this motor wasn't near as quiet as the one in it originally.Ane also the turbo in it is silent :wtf: is going on with my MSP? And my tranny is giving me hell going into 2cd gear!I swear that if the tranny or motor is bad i will know what dealership will have a nice used MSP sitting on the lot as I drive out with a new one or mabe even an RX-8 or Evo.

most protege trannys are a b**** into second

who knows man, check the oil and s***

my dads neon, just got a new engine in that after 140000, the new one gets some valve noise when its cold, but it goes away after fuel presure builds and it gets warm

I dont think it is much you should worry about

the msp DOES have the infamous cold start rattle issue... that's probably what happened

my tranny is quite broken in at 30k miles... no problems going into 2nd at all... super smooth... with a B&M shifter too

it also has a lot to do with motor movement.. my shifts improved noticably since I got my new engine mount

try letting off the gas pedal about half a second later when you clutch in to shift... it should prevent the motor from just lurching forward all of the sudden, causing shifting difficulty

that is very true
I have heard that of many cars, when you get stiffer mounts for the engine it improves shifting

when I romp on the gas in my brothers car you can see the gear shifter move back from the engine torque

Ok this is gonna come off like i'm an ass but this is how it has to be said(i'm not trying to be an ass BTW)I can drive a stick for one.I used to be an ASE tech for three years so I know the difference between cold motor rattle and motor KNOCK!BTW,this car has only 4600 mi. on it so there should be no probs with it!This is by the way the 2cd motor in this car for those of you who didn't know. This tranny by no means is shifting like it should be but the dealer keeps looking at it and telling me that there is no prob!:bs: I think that they don't want to fix it!I think that they don't want to tear it apart because warranty work pays squat and I understand that but this is ridiculous!I have never owned a new car till now yet I have never had as many probs with a car as I have had with this "NEW" one ?:wtf: I don't get it? I love my MSP but I can't deal with the troubles it is giving me.I bought a "NEW" car to get away from a car that would possibly give me trouble.I also can't afford to drive back and forth to the nearest Mazdaspeed dealer(90 MI.)So they can keep looking at the car and telling me that they can't find anything wrong with it!Evertime I take it to the dealer it comes back in worse shape than it went in?(Scratches to my core support, plastic, valve cover cover, etc.) I think Mazda might be buying this one back whether they like it or not!

is it valve rattle?

thats what it is in my dads car, the valve train sounds like its going to fall apart

about the shifting, I have no clue what to tell you, my brothers P5 has never been easy to get into second, somtimes you really have to pull on it, same on my friends P5 sometimes, I have also heard many other members complain of this problem, not a clue why it happens
the only problem I have seen other people talk about is breaking shift forks inside the tranny.

who knows, there is always one lemon, maybe you got stuck with it, sorry

the cold 2nd gear grind is quite common with mazdas... sorry, tough s***... nothing you can really do about it except for using redline tranny fluid... otherwise you can spend money to make custom synchros

no need to get defensive here... no one ever questioned your shifting skills :)

OK you guys, here's the deal. The tranny is not grinding going into 2cd it's just doesn't go in at all!It is soo hard to get into 2cd sometimes that I think i'm going to break the damn shift lever trying to pull it into gear! The motor noise is definately from pistons or bearings(rod or crank, maybe even wrist pins)not from the cold rattle. It does however have the cold rattle but it doesn't ever go away,if anything it gets worse as you drive it!This motor is a whole lot noisier than the original and on top of that I don't think it has been right from the time I picked it up!If I keep taking it to the dealer I might as well sell my house ,change jobs and move next dooe to the dealership so I can pull it in for service every evening!I am by no way being defensive either,I'm just fed up with this supposed "NEW" car and the abundant(SP?)amount of problems it is giving me.
I truely think this may be the "LEMON" of the MSP's!:(

no tranny should be that hard to shift. You can't blaim that on the "protege's", that's bulls***. My tranny has always been fine, as well as every other one I've driven, no Mazda here that I know of has had any major tranny problem, except one dude who drives like hell and broke it himself. Yes, their notchy, and their no honda tranny, but from what this guy is saying, something is defintely wrong.

forcefed, sounds like you got yet another Mazda dealer who doesn't help their customers because they just don't know how to fix it. Ask them, how many engine's have they ever had to replace? How many times did their mechanic that has done your car relpace other engines? Was this the first one they did? basically, guessing the whole way through....hence the scratches? I'm really amazed at how poorly Mazda Mechanics are trained for their own vehicles.

thats the exact same thing i was thinking newf. they got confused or lost or something, maybe they did it on a friday afternoon like 2 hours b4 closing.

No Newf, the guy who did my motor was supposed to be their best tech!He has been a Mazda tech for like 12+ yrs. i guess. They said that they only paid like 8hrs. to the tech for the swap but in reality it took him like 20 hrs. They said he took his time on this one!Don't get me wrong, the guy's at my service department are some of the easiest and greatest guy's to deal with but it seems like i keep having more and more probs out of this car and i'm not sure what to do about it?I really like my MSP(and I have a ton of parts siiting at my house to go on it)and I want this car to be alright but it seems like it has been nothing but trouble for me.My dealer is like 90 mi. away so everytime i think something is wrong I can't just stop into the dealer and say "hey can you guys look at this?"This is where my dilema lies!I work mon-fri 9-5 and really can't afford to take off work all the time to go to the dealer!
WHAT DO I DO?

I got guys working on my car as well that have oodles of years of so called experience.....however, when it comes to this car, the suspension, the turbo and so on.....they are as clueless as....um me? :)

No really, they just don't know what to do with the mp3/msp's setup, their completely guessing. I asked this to see if your having the same troubles.

Good luck man.
