And the Build Begins!!

I'm hoping for Sat April 12th to start it up. Fingers are crossed. way things are going we will get dealayed by something stupid.

Then hopefully ill have 500+ miles on it so i can get it tuned the following weekend at the mazda meet in NH. there is slim chance of that happening im thinking. Most likely the weekend after.

I see broken trannies in your future

Man you make me sad :(
I will never hook this b**** up until I get the tranny built.
I should have taken some pics of my sweet ass dry filmed and ceramic coated pistons before I stuck them in the block.

Looks good man. God speed and good luck.

cool! what ems are you using?

SS AFC V3, If MA wasnt so strict on inspections i would have went with something else.

Unfortunately you are right. i got 3rd and 5th / welded lsd, but i dont see that lasting long with the power she will be putting down.

unfortunately a truely built tranny for our car is $$$$$$

I'm thinking about it. My buddy has an 04 cobra that needs to be tuned so i may go up with him the following weekend if we can get an appointment. We shall see though.

Either way i will have video footage for everyone to watch.

nice build so far. i wondered what happened to his car. sorry i didnt have time to finish putting the p5 motor back in lol

he got another mustang? oh boy, i heard about the last one...

Lookin real good! I have about 600 miles on my Speedcircuit block and PAR gears couldn't be happier even just at 14psi. Just knowing I'm not a ticking timebomb!!

lol yeah he got my mustang. I sold it to him and took his car in part of the deal. I miss the stang :0( .....05 , 4.10 gears, SCT tune, intake, exhaust, rouch body kit, Seibon carbon fiber cobra R hood. Thing is beautiful.

Don't mean to jack the thread but what makes you say that Maxx?

Me too.... I think a motor break in all depends on who you talk to. But id rather not have fight over whos right and whos wrong for a motor break in. If its not already been talked about on here someone make a new thread.

A little boost is alright, but generally you should go REAL easy (like drivin miss daisy) for about 500Km, then change the oil. Then until 1,500 Km start ramping it up a bit, doing lots of engine braking to seat those rings well in both directions. Making that engine pull lots of vacuum is REAL good for it. Finally, around 2,000Km's you can switch to synthetic oil and give'r.

Whatever you do though, do not run synthetic oil for the first 2,000 KM any engine builder will tell you this. I use Shell Rotella T 15W-40 diesel oil in all my engines. (builder reccomended.) It's REAL thick to help everything seat in properly. I wrote a "how-to" for Metallic36 on first start procedure as well. Letting it idle too long is death to a new engine.

Many will say almost the complete opposite of what you are saying! I mean really, piston rings need to seat within the first 50-100miles.

I brought up the synthetic issue with Dino and he said in his opinion it makes no difference.

I did drivin miss daisy for the first 25 miles and then started bringing the rpms up with no boost and constant engine braking to get rings seated. By 400miles I had already changed the oil 3 times and started easing into boost at 8psi and kept bumping it after inspection of everything over and over and here I am!? Actually I'm at 700miles today.

Threadjack over although this is a very important part of any build and hasn't had many discussions that I could ever find.

I brought up the synthetic issue with Dino and he said in his opinion it makes no difference.

He is the first engine builder I've ever heard of to reccomend either synthetic or standard oil for a new / rebuilt engine... I just went downstairs to our shop and polled 6 mechanics at random. Each and everyone said synthetic on a new engine is a HUGE no-no unless you want to be burning a ton of oil for the life of the engine. The machine shop who did my latest engine for me builds Cascar engines all day long. (They're a specialty race shop) and they agreed synthetic on a brand new motor is bad news.

The reason I was given is this: The new parts (mainly the piston rings here) take advantage of the honing marks cut into the cylinder and use them like a file on the piston rings. This will shape the rings perfectly to the cylinder (think on a microscopic level here.) Synthetic oil lubricates too well and doesn't allow this to happen as it should. As a result, you get what's called "glazing" on the cylinder walls, and because the rings haven't had the chance to seat properly (again, think REAL small here) you'll end up having low compression, oil consumption, etc etc. I was even reccomended to use a thicker oil (I use 15W-40 for break in) because it sticks to everything alot better.

It's too late now, all of this has to happen in the first 500 miles or so of the engine's life. Do what you want, it's your engine, but even everyone I asked had never heard of an engine builder not specifying non-syn for a new engine. They looked at me like I was crazy for even thinking synthetic was even a possibility... They said it's one of the first things they would have taught Dino in school about building engines.
