The IT dept at my work blocked AIM and just now has blocked Meebo.

Any other FREE ways to get on AIM? or am I screwed?

(no cell phone at work)

trillian is a unique chat program that incorporates AIM, ICQ, and msn messenger platforms if I remember correctly

I have WiFi at work too.

The WiFi is set up for guest access. I can switch to that..... but then I lose access to all the programs I need for my job.

This sucks. **** IT!!!

Convince your boss that you'd be more productive with an auxillary lap-top. Login to one with guest access, and the other with employee access. One for work, and one for play.

Just make sure to have a pie-chart or something minimized on the toolbar of your play computer in case your boss walks in.

I bring my personal laptop logged in as a guest to view pages blocked by the companies setup on my work computer.

And I run my IM setup on that computer, as well as my Itunes libr.

How about google talk? For a while, all other protocols here at my job were blocked except gtalk.

http://talk.google.com

I use Trillian myself, but the protocols are the same for AIM, YAHOO, MSN, ICQ, MIRC whether you use Trillian or not. I also have google talk working with Trillian.

logmein.com ?

you'd use that site to access your home PC and you can do whatever the hell you want at that point...

even if you could download and install trillian, it still wouldn't work.
All it does is provide a single interface for the major IM services. It still uses the same servers as the standalone programs...

are they blocking aim from connection after you installed it?
i used to use www.gotomypc.com when i was in school...works a bit better then log me in from using it. but a very handy tool.

if you have a decent broadband connection at home and XP on both systems, you can always try to use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection. If you have any sort of broadband router/firewall, you will need to set up port forwarding to have it work.

Don't want to mess around with network configurations? Hamachi.
