Convince your boss that you'd be more productive with an auxillary lap-top. Login to one with guest access, and the other with employee access. One for work, and one for play.
Just make sure to have a pie-chart or something minimized on the toolbar of your play computer in case your boss walks in.
I use Trillian myself, but the protocols are the same for AIM, YAHOO, MSN, ICQ, MIRC whether you use Trillian or not. I also have google talk working with Trillian.
even if you could download and install trillian, it still wouldn't work.
All it does is provide a single interface for the major IM services. It still uses the same servers as the standalone programs...
are they blocking aim from connection after you installed it?
i used to use www.gotomypc.com when i was in school...works a bit better then log me in from using it. but a very handy tool.
if you have a decent broadband connection at home and XP on both systems, you can always try to use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection. If you have any sort of broadband router/firewall, you will need to set up port forwarding to have it work.
