alpine head unit settings

all right, im done getting the cda-9813 installed and working correctly, so now i need to go about setting it up correctly, and some help would be appreciated.
right now, everything else is stock, but when i have some free time i will install a subwoofer and all new speakers. the speakers will run off the head unit for now. my main question is what do i have to do crossover-wise on the head unit? i dont think ill need to worry about the sub because my sub amp has a crossover in it(what should i set that to?) how should i set the crossovers for the speakers when i get the subwoofer in there?

also, this head unit has a couple fancy things, such as MX (media Expansion), an EQ, and time correction. should i mess with any of that or leave them switched off?

I have an alpine head unit with MX also. It sounds MXway better if you turn on the MX especially for CDs helps out the radio too. The MX on mine has three levels 1-3 just experiment to find which level you like.

You can go to alpines website and play around with all the settings on there in an easier interface.

Leave media expander off.
The parametric EQs should be left alone unless you have used an RTA on the car and found problem frequencies. Or you have a great ear and can call the band of sound giving you issue..

I would start with the crossovers at 80 hz and adjust from there.

so set the sub at 80hz and below, the speakers at 80hz and above, and work from there? is there any good way to tinker around to make it sound better, or just go with what sounds good?

Leave the sub crossover off unless you want to use the radio to experiment with its setting then hard set it on the amp.

Other then that for sounding good you have to go by ear unless you can get a RTA to find where the problem areas are and use the EQ to tune them out.

thanks man, i think now im good in that respect. one more question though: where do you think i should mount my sub amp? i was thinking it would be easier in the back with the sub, so i dont have to deal with passengers kicking the amp, but i dont want it to look like it was just thrown back there either. any ideas on how it could look good with just a single 10" back there?

If you make it straight and use wire loom then even mounting an amp on the back of a seat can look good.
I have my old amp in my girlfirends civic and the guy at town fair tire didn't want to put her old tires in the trunk becuase he was worried it would ruin the install :D.
Its quick easy and works well.

got any pictures of it mounted on the back of a seat? i was kinda thinking of just screwing it to a board, putting some velcro on the bottom so it wouldnt slide, and placing it right next to the sub. but that might look kinda lame.

I should be able to get some pics wednesday of it.
PM me then to remind me, I forget easily.
