Almost a CX-9 Owner

I've got a deposit in on an 08 Galaxy Gray Touring FWD with the tow package. The car is supposed to be here around June 8...

We were originally going to get a minivan, since we are expecting our 3rd kid. Neither of us was thrilled about the idea of a minivan, but figured it was the most rational for the space/fuel efficiency, etc.

My wife was doing some reading, and heard about the CX-9. She thought the idea sounded interesting. I had never heard of it, and was intrigued as well. So, last friday afternoon, we stopped by the local dealer and looked at one. Very nice. Also interesting to note that the stated fuel economy (16/22 MPG) was the same as some of the minivans we had been considering (honda odyssey).

After I went home, started doing some research, looked at the specs for the CX-9, the honda pilot, and the toyota highlander. Saw the awards, etc. for the mazda. The highlander got slightly better fuel economy, but my wife didn't like the looks that much. Pilot also not as nice looking as the CX-9.

By sunday, I started e-mailing dealers with specs on the car we wanted. We wanted a pretty basic car, but decided that we would like leather seats, so we opted for a Touring level. Also wanted the towing package since we wanted a hitch for light towing.

Turns out the local dealer had the best price. He had 2 cars, 1 in galaxy gray, the other in red. Suprisingly, my wife wanted the grey, so I called up the dealership. Turns out, they grey wasnt there, but he said that he could get it for us around June 8. Since we were not in a rush to get a car immediately, I went ahead and placed a deposit. Dealer did send me an e-mail with the VIN# and copy of the window sticker, so I am assuming he is not BSing me.

I'm looking forward to the CX-9.

my buddy just bought one (he traded in a 06 boxter???) anyway, he and his wife love it!

"jus get the gt its worth it, sport or gt, touring aint worth it"

Nonsense... On what data do you base that 'worth' statement?

For $1800 MSRP, the GT adds bigger wheels, xenon & fog lights, signals on the mirrors, rain sensing wipers, keyless entry, fake wood trim and a small assortment of chrome and other doodads. The reality is that most GTs also are optioned up to the gills with the crappy Nav system and other stuff too, so don't think you'll be able to find one with just the standard opts.

For those who want those things it's great, but for my money, I bought the FWD Touring and have lots of cash left over for gas, tires, etc. Having driven both the GT and T, I also think the ride is better with the smaller rims.

To each his own. That's why there are different trim levels. I only wish we could truly cherry pick the individual options on all trim levels rather than getting stuck in option package hell.

I completely agree. I love my Touring. The guts of the car is the same on all three levels, pick the options which work best for you. I didn't want the 20" wheels or the wood trim. BSM would have been nice, but since I've never had it before, I don't know what I'm missing.

We would have been happy with the sport model, but only decided to upgrade to the touring for the leather seats. We wanted leather because, in our experience, it works better with little kids. I didn't need (or want) 20" wheels, or the other gadgets.

So for us, the touring was just fine.

It's Here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The car arrived at the port at long beach on June 8, as promised, but wasn't scheduled to be at the dealer until the 16th.

Got a call this morning from the internet manager, saying that they pushed it through, and the car came in today, so we were able to pick it up this afternoon. Car had 2 miles on the odometer when we picked it up.

It's awesome!! The galaxy gray color looks great, has a little of a bluish tint to it. Interior is really nice, and comfortable. It drives like a sports car.

Can't wait to put some more miles on it.
