ALL Unichip Questions / Problems

My bad. Check out this thread. So far it says he's considering it. I thought different. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123666482

I may stand corrected. When I spoke with him back in may or june and was getting his input on it he told me at first he thought Unichip was pretty cool cause of the switches but getting it tuned was a pain to find a local tuner and because of that fact he would rather go with the SS AFC not to mention its cheaper. So he has left me thinking he doesn't think to highly of the Unichip anymore. As he said it gets the job done but he isn't a fan.....I still like the Unichip....lol....just wish it worked properly with my 626 manifold.

I've got a brother that lives on the north side of Chicago so I'm hoping that shop around there will tune it so I can make a little road trip. As for th 626 mani., if they made ANYTHING that would fix that hesitation when it's cold I would definently be all over it!

I hear that. Only way that can get fixed from what I know is to get a custom tune on your 'Speed. I hope you get your tune done and everything works out for you man. Worst case take it to TX and see JDMSam if he is still tuning the Unichip. Lol I am dying to get there and get mine tuned but with my second baby due in early December I dont think its wise for me to spend that money right now. Hell who knows, maybe I might be parting my car out soon.

The ubichip is nothing but a trash box.$500 down the drain. For that kind of money I could of really got something that works. That would be the MSD DIS 2.

I am sure there are a lot of people that would disagree with that statement...Did you actually take the effort to get it tuned?

You also drive a MS3 and this is the MSP section...an MSD DIS 2 probably doesnt work on the MSP.

Yea there is a unichip tuner in Garland, TX off of Shiloh Rd.

Well that's the closest place to get a donkychip (I mean) unichip tuned. Hey but they said 4 years ago that they would of Dyno'ed and tune it for $400

Hey I know JoTech is the bomb, I watched them move in to that shop and know there work.

water/meth kit + unichip

Open to discussion, has anyone run a water/meth kit with their unichip? I have no idea what the gain in whp would be. I just started reading up on it and it seems like they would compliment each other very well. Granted I'll need to get the chip custom tuned but that's already in the master plan. I think ProfessorMSP is running the combo but can't recall for sure. IMO for $315.00 it seems like a better purchase then an upgraded IC or FMIC.

not that it is a big deal, but you have to refill the methanol. You dont have to maintain the upgraded intercooler. I would say you should get an upgraded intercooler before getting water/meth injection.

I'm sure I will get both in the end. I was just thinking I should get the kit before it goes up in price.

I have been reading alot about meth over the last two years but haven't gone to it yet, I am ready to, just haven't bit the bullet yet. If you read up on it you shouldn't try to tune your set-up for the meth, instead tune the set-up and then run the meth. It is a boost in safety more than anything, when you start tuning around the meth you are lowering that safety net a little each time. You will see a gain, its hard to say what gain since it depends on so many factors but you'll see one and rest easier knowing that it is safer. Jeff is running a custom meth inj that is individual chamber specific, I plan on running Snow Performances stage 2 kit and a couple other people are running others. Devils Own is a good kit as well. My friend here Shadow102 built his own with a fuel inline fuel pump I had sitting around, he just had to get nozzles and fab them into his cold pipe. It is a good modification I believe, as long as you don't try to lean your fuel out after meth, you are really risking trouble then. If there is any failure you can pretty much kiss the block good bye. Use it for safety and you should be fine. I'd be worried since there is no way to tune the unichip yourself if you try that route. I have megasquirt that is tuned right from the laptop so if my meth inj ran into a problem it is easily fixed. Good luck and PM if you have any more questions, i am no expert on the stuff, just been reading on it alot.

+1

That's what I'm doing with my meth injection. We're probably going to just set it to come on at WOT and just stick with whatever tune we come up with without it on.

Yeah, let us know how it turns out.....

I reinstalled it over the Thanksgiving holidays. I didn't install the boost solenoid. So far so good. (crosses fingers)

At least my MPG is back up to about 30-31!

Getting mine tuned after the Holidays. Unichip just finished their new programming and software, so we should be getting the updated stuff at the shop soon. I'll let everyone know how the tune and meth install goes once I get it done in early January.

interesting opinions here on the tuned computer + meth setup. I was under the impression that you WOULD want to re-tune to adjust for the meth -- i guess i figured it woud throw off the flow considerably, but maybe not?

So the consensus is: If i am already tuned (on the unichip), then i should just add on the meth under it's own program (by boost, rpm, wot, etc.) and do not retune? It should probably be safe if nothing else to raise the boost 1-2 psi while injecting the meth, yes? I have been avoiding buying a kit simply because i can't drop the cash for a unichip re-tune.

From the research I have seen on it you are seeing it correctly. using it as a safety net is the smartest way to run it. Best part I feel you see from meth is the raise in the pump gas octane, hell if you are running a 50/50 mix it can raise 93octane to about 103octane. This lowers your combustion temps (as well as the vaporization of teh h2o) and keeps it nice and safe to run higher boost as long as you don't go overboard, make sure you use adequate nozzles and pump, you should be rocketing. also it's wise to either get a kit with sometime of monitor, whether it's an indash LED or a gauge of some type, to insure that the pump is functioning properly. Or if you are building your own kit I'd think it wise to build that into it. And if you don't mix your own meth/water solution, you can buy windshield wiper fluid, a normal summer fluid is about 5% meth while a winter blend is upwards in 20% meth. Just some things to ponder. I plan on mixing my own and keeping an extra gallon of it in the car. I'll probably remote mount the resivior in the trunk.
