MSP Problems

1. Hesitation/stumbling during acceleration. Now flashed and still have the problem, but it's not as severe.

2. Clunk from the rear suspension. Replaced with new/updated bushing and problem solved.

3. Squeaking from front suspension, most noticable in cold weather.

4. Kenwood head unit -- most noticably cranky is the mechanized face plate, sounds like the little face plate motor is working too hard to open and close.

5. Some spots of rust on the rotor hub areas.

6. Lip of the stock muffler beginning to crack.

7. Alarm was way too sensitive when I received the car from the dealership. Figured how to lower the sensitivity on this website =)

8. Difficulty shifting into first and second gear at times.

9. Engine mounts gave too much flex, seemed like the engine was bouncing around under the hood. Replaced with AWR mounts and problem solved. Better throttle response and no lashing.

10. 100 km/h or more in fifth gear... lack of pick up and go zoom zoom.

11. Lack of Mazdaspeed aftermarket support or parts. Stage 1, Stage 2 upgrades, boost guages, exhausts, general warrentied engine upgrades... nothing is out there!!?? Seems "Mazdaspeed" is just posing in this industry.

12. Going in reverse is embarrasing at times since it's very noisy.

13. Intercooler gets heatsoaked quickly, notice drop in performance after driving for a while. And intercooler fan blowing hot air toward the air intake? Hummm...

That's it for now...

Has anyone emailed/shown this thread to Mazda NA? If not, I am thinking about presenting them with this and my own evidence and kindly asking for a buy back option. If they are asses, then not so kindly. Any thoughts? How does that lemon law work again?

Ya know, i only have 3200 miles so far so im sure ill be seeing these things soon, but i had the rear clunk which the bushings fixed so far (been 3 days), i have hesitation when accelerating. which i dont mind as much as..... my freakin lights dim constantly, like if i open a window the lights dim, my headlights dim when the radios hittin, its rediculous. its like were runnin on 9 volts. other than that i have no major issues.

I don't know what state you are in so no one can really tell you, BUT you can look up your state online, I have wanted to do that ever scene I have had the car but just have not done it. Good luck !

Lemon Laws are great here is another option if you dealer doesn't want to play nice!!!!!

I am in the process of using a rule of law which applies to anyone who has had their MSP FINACED through the dealer. In the US there is a rule called "Holder in due course" what this means is that you can use the holder of your finance contract as a means of forcing Mazda to fix your car. All finace contracts have the following language in them:

NOTICE" any holder of this consumer credit contract is subject to all claims and defenses which the debtor could assert against the seller of goods or services obtained pursuant hereto or with the proceeds hereof. Recovery here-under shall not exceed amounts paid by the debtor hereunder"

What basically happens is that you notify your loan comapny in writing that you are using this rule. Then you stop making your payments. You put your car payments into a seperate bank account until the problem is fixed. It is amazing to watch how fast Mazda comes around when it is their finace company who is trying to get something done.

If you look on the WEB you can find various examples of this rule being used and in some cases you cannot only get your car fixed, but if it is shown that the company is knowingly not fixing something they should have you can recover up to treble damages.

Hope this helps. The more of us who use tools like this the faster Mazda will just take care of the isssues to make us go away.

1. hesitation (ECU is flashed by Heritage Mazda in January 2004)
2. clunk
3. rotors warping with normal use (owned 2 msp's, both warped rotors @ 7,000 miles)
4. intercooler getting heatsoaked fast
5. lip cracked on stock muffler after 5,000 miles

Another dis-satisfied Mazda Customer

1. Rear Bushings fixed 4 months and counting
2. Engine missing hesitation - Flashed still has hesitation.
3. Sub-Woofer torn cone - 8 weeks to get part fixed so far.
4. Front bushings on order for 3 weeks
5. Radio shuts off when hot or volume cuts in half random. - not fixed

Dealer plays the game of we cannot reproduce the problem so we can do nothing about it. Took the Mazdaspeed technician for a ride showed him the hesitation. He said he would put it to Mazda and get back to me. Never called back, contacted Mazda service they came back and told me that the technician was only able to see the problem when you were driving and I needed to take the car back so he could reproduce it himself ( Biggest crock of s**t I have ver heard). I have had this car since Dec. 2003 I ahve had it in to the shop 6 times and I have to go back again.

hey guys i feel you all on this one - i have a 2003.5 msp and my car has every problem in the book - ive had the entire coolant system replace 6 times so far - was considering lemon law but i cant do it to my baby!!!!! more or less i wont do it to my car! anyway at this moment in time i have a horrible coolant leak, broken bushings(already have the "updated" bushings but we all know how they work), a blown sub and headunit, loose rear deck, and a squeeky drivers seat that drives me nuts. I'm proposing since we all have similar problems that instead of complaining about them we take action and work as a group to kick mazda in their butt to get higher quality parts that will fix our problems!!!!!!!!! chris

Blown engine after 15,000 miles completly stock. I drove the car 300 miles. Stupid dealerships that like ******* over their customers and trying to get them to pay 7k out of pocket for a new engine that SHOULD BE WARRENTIED. But instead, you choose to lie to me and tell me that my car was tampered with and oil drained from. Oh yea, and you did that to another guy with a blown engine in omaha too. YOu gave him the exact same bulls*** answer so you would'nt have to pay. Seriously, **** MAZDA. I went into this purcahse thinking it would be good. I owned the car for 1 week and I allready am so pissed off I wish I NEVER would've bought an MSP.

If someone from MAZDA is reading this post and has the balls to contact me via PM or email to actually try and resolve the problem, rather than jerk me off go for it. OTHERWISE **** OFF BECAUSE I AM NEVER BUYING A MAZDA AGAIN, TELLING ANYONE TO BUY A MAZDA, HAVING ANY WORK DONE AT A MAZDA DEALER, OR SITTING IN A MAZDA AGAIN IN MY LIFE!

Oh yea... And if you ever do repair my car (which isnt likely because all of your dealerships are run by stupid ass clowns who are convinced cold-air intakes cause rod failure) I will sell my car and buy something actually reliable that has a warrenty that doesnt automatically get voided whenever a major problem goes wrong with the car that clearly isnt the owners fault... You know, like Nissan, or Toyota, or Mitsubishi.

Rear bumper lip sags around exhaust side.
Radio stuck in open position and shuts off making me undo the battery to reset it.
Rattles everywhere.

Please PM me or post all of your dealership info and thouroughly explain what happened to you. I work at a dealership and am very interested in this. I would like to see if maybe I could help in discovering an angle to help resolve this for you. It's not Mazda who is ******* you...it's probably some fat 42 year old Sales Manager who doesn't want your engine to be charged to his sales department. It sucks Mazda hasn't helped you at all, but I would like to see if I can. PEACE!

I race, I drive everyday, I drive in winter, and I boost daily, exceding the recommended levels. I've had my fair share of problems. Leaking coolant bypass hose, rear bushings replaced three times. Window regulater and channel replaced. Cracked wastegate vacuum hose, but nothing NOTHING comes close to the laundry list of problems you people have.

The mechanics at my dealership/service center are awesome. [edited by jersey_emt - comment removed] My service center said unless I raise my boost or install something that fails because of the way I installed it (which isn't going to happen), I will still have warrantee on the parts that are not aftermarket. I don't use the warantee, but that's just to show that some people who work for Mazda appreciate that you bought a new car from them and want your business in the future:)

I'll say this.....Mazda service does suck money balls and Mazda NA is no better. It took 3 trips to the dealer and 2 months to get a proper replacement muffler. The first one they wanted to install was off a bone stock protege. (jerkit) THEN they get a wagon muffler and actually install it. It fit but was too short to reach the bumper. You have to beg at every service call. Makes me think buying a new car is a joke. The warrenty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

I recently bought a used MSP from a local dealership.. this was second car from them and they have treated me good. I got the 'clunk', leaky turbo, and a coolant leak fixed... and they replaced something that I didn't even mention... they tested my battery and replaced it without me asking...

so far so good... doesn't mean it will stay that way, but so far I have no complaints
