Which air intake does everyone(if you have intake)have? And how does it sound at WOT vs just cruising. I am curious to see the difference in sound between the CAI and SRI also. I'm not even going to bother asking about performance because it is asked way too much, and noone seems to have any solid answers.....

Anyways...I'm just trying to decide which on I want for my BDay next week.

sounds sweet...all around...
-at idle, I think its quieter than stock
-at cruising (low rpms; 2500-3300) same as stock
-punching it (from 3500-3700 and up) sounds bad ass, relatively low pitch and very healthy sounding, much better sound than stock.
-highway driving is the same, I think the rpms are actually lower @ 80 than they were w/ stock.

Power diff isn't that noticeable, but response is dramatically changed. Quicker reaction, better feel.

Overall, pretty happy.

I love the sound of my intake. When it's WOT... it sounds like an AEM on Vtec... LOL loud and rumbly.... not high pitched.... you hear the air being sucked it at low rpm's...

Cruising is normal... no extra noise... but when you give it some gas.... then it sounds like a V8... aaarrrr ararrrararrarrarar

I love it... any intake will sound good on our cars with that exhaust we have.

Injen and mine are true CAI. The short rams are Hot Air Intake with less restriction then stock.

I think some real testing should be done on 1 car with both systems under the same conditions before you make a statement like that. All they would need to do is make another hole right after the intake air temp sensor & compare the air temp's between the different setups.

I think it's safe to say that the AEM is not a CAI. Cold air intakes USUALLY take in air from the fender well and NOT from the engine compartment. Even AEM understands this by offering either short ram OR cold air setups. So it is relatively safe to make a statement like that. If you are talking about actual performance......that's another story. In theory, the CAI SHOULD make more power. However, there are a bunch of factors that complicate this.

I personally went with a CAI to get more of a power gain and by what Racing Beat said when they were developing an intake for the then future MP3, "An intake duct utilizing a K&N cone filter was produced for the car, and it got close to production when Mazda discovered that, due to it's narrow range of operation, the engine management system could not tolerate drawing warm air from the engine compartment. It was not possible to design a filter system that drew truly cool air in the time available."
Check this link out to see for yourself. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRprotege.htm
Do I think that a short ram will cause problems for anyone in the future? Absolutely not. (that's just my opinion though) This article didn't influence my decision a whole lot considering that the AEM wasn't available when I got my intake. It was interesting though. What do you peeps think?

im in the same dilema im tryin to decide between the AEM an INJEN i like the looks of the aem better since i dont like the red on the injen. im gonna keep reasearchin b4 i purchase one.

The temp in an engine bay can reach 60+ Degrees celsius. I have done testing with my old PRM CAI. and the temp was about from 10 degrees above outside temperature... it was about 27 outside and the testing was done I have about 36-37 degrees right before the throttle body.

My stock box has air of 47-48 degrees. I can only see it getting worst when that huge K&N is sitting in some dead air, meaning there is no circulation and no seperation between then hot engine compartment.

I am not saying they are bad nor better, but they are not CAI cause they are not sucking any cold air what so ever. The difference of HP might be so small that we wouldn't notice the difference. I mean can we really notive a 1-2 Hp difference.. not in a million years....

I say go with the injen. Not that AEM is bad... i jsut hear alot of great things about injen that's all...If color is a factor in your decision then you might be forgowing performance.... Your hood is closed most of the time anyways....

Unlike other short ram systems the AEM doesn't lay across the top of the engine bay. As you can see in the AEM Short Ram photo from the attached link, it can (who knows if it really does) draw cooler air from the opening below.

this has been brought up MANY times. The only way we are going to find out which is better is to get one car to dyno two or three times stock, then two or three times with each intake. anybody want to donate there intake so i can dyno with them :D

Yeah I know it has, I'm just being stubborn:D

I got a ractive intake and it sounds exactly like the aem intake, better throttle response, have a heat shield around the cone and have felt a little more hp than stock but it is only a intake your not going to get alot of hp out of just a intake, but the car sounds awsome when you push it!

i am in the process of designing one... i am not sure what i want to make it out of either... im thinking of making it out of either aluminum or plastic...... im thinking plastic will deflect heat better and i want to try and design something to pull more air from under the car... kinda like a spoiler and pull the air upwards.....

im also thinking of making it for the guys that have the aem if they want them... hopefully it will help the heat problem....
