just wondering if anyone on the board have replaced their stock steering wheel with an aftermarket one, like a momo or sparco one and lemme know what your experiences with the install...thanks
I dont know if your steering wheel is the same as the 03 LX's but if it is I have no idea why you would want a different wheel...The stock wheel is really nice. Its small and is very conforming. I guess if you have a hole in your pocket you could replace it.. but if you do let me know.. I have a friend who would love to buy the wheel.
i have the MSP wheel - slight differences from the 5 wheel. The LX wheel and the 5 wheel are not entirely the same. The LX/ES/DX wheels are not leather wrapped like the 5 is.
easy to install - get a puller, disconnect the battery (the airbag firing off upon removal would be slightly discomforting) and go for it.
Just a quick heads up on this one: If you do replace your steering wheel with a unit without an airbag, then you're car is effectively not street legal. If you're insurance finds out (in one manner or another), they will drop you on the spot unless you can specifically state that the car is used for non-highway use (i.e. just racing, etc - even then you should find another insurance company ). Basically, it is illegal to remove any SRS system or component from a vehicle that was OEM equipped as such and still be street legal.
I'm not saying that you CAN'T do it or what not; just don't complain when (if) you get into a wreck and you find yourself against the steering wheel in 1 second w/o any recourse to making contact.
It is illegal to remove any SRS system or component and NOT replace it kind (i.e. put a wheel in that doesn't have an airbag). Cap, I think you're OK as you went with a (technically) OEM component.
