Aftermarket remote start

As summer is nearing an end, I'm beginning to think of getting a remote car starter. Never having had one before, I am wondering if the push button start and having to have the key in the car for it to start would cause any problems? I'm sure manufacturers have thought of this and come up with something, but want to check. It is a factory option so it must also work with the aftermarket ones.

Actually.... I explored this option as well and I spoke with the dealership and they actually have a Mazda OEM remote start for CX-5. I was offered $500 to install the system and the dealer told me (which means take it with a grain of salt) that the range of remote start is even greater then current key fob.

The factory remote start is garbage. I have it and think that for the money you could do a LOT better aftermarket. Reasoning to follow:

1.) the range is not as good as stated (it will start the car from about 100 feet but not through any obstructions usually, and often it will start but fail to communicate back to the remote which is frustrating)
2.) The car turns off when you open the door, no matter what. On most aftermarket systems the car will stay on until you touch the brake (required to get the car out of park) and if you have the key in the ignition and turned to the run position (not start which would grind the starter) the car never has to turn off.
3.) you have to carry two fobs either way. the factory fob will not unlock the car or allow you to start it once you are in

If anyone wants a slightly used factory remote start (and I can figure out how to remove it) I would be willing to sell mine, pretty sure I will never use it, sadly.

Best

David
