Aftermarket In-Dash kit confusion

Hello everyone. My wife and I are about to purchase a 2009 Mazda5 to replace our Toyota Sienna that is coming off lease. We are both looking forward to a smaller, sportier car.

I am a little confused about the dash kit. I would like to install an aftermarket stereo (Pioneer 700BT, which I have in my 06 MX-5), but cannot tell if the aftermarket dash kit's silver is the same as the silver in the 09 dashboard/shifter console. I have read a bunch of the posts related to this topic, but still am unsure.

Is it the same or is it different? I would appreciate it if someone can help answer this question for me.

Thanks,

Stephen

The 06-07 has a silver centre dash, the 08-09 has what I can describe as black chrome. I haven't seen a 08-09 dash kit yet but I'm sure one exists... someone might be able to chime in here.

Congrats on the 5 btw!

Thanks. I am trying to see if the "silver" around the shifter and the aftermarket kit (see the post in this forum at http://tinyurl.com/plzcyn) are the same color. I am getting the sense that they are not, but can't be sure.

Has anyone with an 08/09 tried the Scosche dash kit?

Ok, the wife here! We a buying an '09 GT and are thinking of doing after market nav. Currently, the GT with navigation has a piano black faceplate around it and a little bit of what I would best describe as brushed silver around that. (Don't know where they came up with that black, it is nowhere else in the car!) The GT without navigation has only the brushed silver.

What we are trying to figure out, is what color is that after market faceplate? Is it the same, matching "brushed" silver, or will we be adding a new random finish to the interior...

p.s. any thoughts on color? We have it narrowed down to White Pearl with sand leather or Sunlight Silver with black leather. White with black leather would be a perfect world... *sigh*

Be sure to post up what gets installed. My wife and I are looking into aftermarket NAV systems.

michael.

Well, we bought the Metra kit - it does not match. I'm sticking with the factory nav.

Yeah, I just installed the Metra kit. It totally matches the 2007 5.

The fitment leaves a lot to be desired. There are major gaps between it and my climate controls, like 2-3 mm. Not great quality, unless I did something wrong on the install.

Is the Shoche kit better?

I have the Metra kit and the silver paint was poor quality. I painted the surround with a black Rustoleum texture paint that is almost identical to the look and feel of the black texture of the surrounding dash on my '09-- I didn't want silver anyway.

Looks like we are going to sound like a pair of married idiots! Actually, I picked up the Scosche kit, not the Metra.

But, as Stephen said, it doesn't match. I took it straight over the dealership and it is definitely not a match. The silver on the dash in the car is more of a brushed champiagne colored silver. This Scosche kit is really a straight forward soft silver.

I went in to the parts department and spoke with one of the guys (everyone there was very helpful) about them ordering the piano black piece that is in the 09 GT with nav. He called Stephen and gave him the bad news that it was complicated and quite expensive. If you want details, feel free to ask Stephen to explain it. His explanation to me was "Honey, it's complicated, you are getting the factory navigation..."

Now I have to take this darn thing back too!

I think only paid $25 for the Metra kit-- will post a pic of the painted piece if anyone is interested.

It looks like we will be bringing home a car tomorrow. I will attempt to take a picture, showing the difference in the silver finishes - if anyone is interested in seeing the difference.

Not sure if you are aware, but you can get the White Pearl with black leather (I have it :) ). I'm in Canada, so not sure if it is the same elsewhere. I thought the black would be good as hubby plans to put bikes, etc. in there and I was afraid of grease on lighter colors, but it sure shows the dust!! Too bad no grey!

Soche and Metra kit is the exact same kits. They are perfect color match to 06-07 Mazda 5, and different from 08-09. The fitment is a bit off in the bottom, but it is barely noticeable. The kit will fit 08-09 but as mentioned will mismatch the color. You guys have another option available. You can purchase the plastic cover

to make the color match 100%.

Feel free to ask if you guys have any more questions.

If they had the pearl with black leather in the US, that's what we would have purchaed, but no such option in the US.
