AEM short-ram VS Injen CAI

How would the Injen splash guard help? Doesn't that cover one of the sides of the element long-ways. If the filter is pointing straight down the splash guard would have to be below it to protect it correctly. Technically the splash guard would benefit the AEM application better considering the position of the filter element. Right?

Drop in filter? Do you mean keep the stock intake housing and upgrad just the filter?! Hehe, your missing the whole point, it's not necissarily the filter that needs to be upgraded (I'm sure the stock filter allows air to pass through fine) it's the design of the stock intake itself. It's very, well, "suffocating" to the engine. If you ever actually look at the path the air has to travel before it enters the throttle body you'd scratch your head. CAI and Short Rams impove airflow because of the design, and actuall intake location.
Dichiee if a drop-in filter floats your boat......great. I'm sure you'll hear no grief from the Mazda dealer when you take it in for warranty work- however you'd be yeilding a WHOLE quarter to eighth of a HP. lol :)

I agree... like I said im kidding. The CAI will be much better but for the short ram, I'd rather do a K&N drop in coz the short ram sucks hot air. Well of course I'm not sure how it is with the Mazda I'm just trying to add an opinion from a VW standpoint. In my experience the drop-in felt much stronger than the cone filter one I had in my golf maybe because it lost torque? And one thing VWs does to the stock air-box... they swiss cheese it (they drill the box with holes) and they love it hehe... maybe I should try that on the P5 if it will work too

Is this threat of hydro lock for real? I was thinking of adding an Injen CAI but want to know if this is something i should take into consideration before doing it. Or is it a fluke type thing?

It doesn't happen that often, or should I say- doesn't happen unless you drive in heavy rain thru deep puddles. We have a few days a year like that around here, where it's turrental downpour. I'd be petrified to have to drive during those time. However........I'm still going the CAI route. :) If I hydra lock the engine- se-la-vi.........that's what GAP insurance is for. :)

I was just on AEM's website and they are now making a CAI. It is not available for P5s yet but I imagine soon. Should I look into this or is Injen still a better buy? AEM has not posted any prices (at least not that I can find) as of yet. What do you guys think? Is Injen still the best product?

go with the injen. if price is an issue go with aem. i beleive the injen will be a bit more expensive, but i think its worth it.

I just read on Protegeclub.com that Injen and AEM will throw check engin lights when installed and that K&N typhoon will not. Is this true?

I'm going to the K&N route because of its known high quality products but now who needs an AEM short ram if I can do this with my golf's K&N filter hehehe
