Aem F/ic

i took my car to a shop in houston to get tuned. the shop does a great deal of tuning ford cars. they immediately recognized the ecu and the harness as a ford ecu. interestingly enough, i believe it was the focus svt that had an almost identical wire harness. they claimed that a few pins would have to be relocated however, it would be no big deal. the whole point to my post is that the focus ecu i am referring to would swap into our cars with a little modification and no only that, they can flash that ecu. i believe the tuning program they use is called diablo. so that may be another option....

is the svt ecu helpful to our cars? whats the point in getting it. i think it would fit no problem, but did the guy say its a game.

and if i sent my old ecu to the guy, can he flash it to tune my airfuel and timming for NA? that would be sick!

you cant just send him the ecu. they would have to rewire a few pins to make teh swap compatible. the whole point in getting it is that no one has ever been able to flash our ecus. and since they can flash this ecu then it would be like full standalone control (they can tune teh stock maps) without needing a full standalone unit (plus if it worked correctly no cel etc). you def cant just send them ur ecu because no one has been teh guinea pig yet. again, this hasnt been done but they felt confident.

SORRY FOR THE THREAD JACK. if anyone else has any questions just shoot me a private message.

is there any way you can post the wiring instructions from aem...could not find it anywhere online

And you still havent told us if it even works yet..I am guessing somethings not right..Otherwise you would be raving about it..Not hiding whether it works or not.

probably because he is in PR, not home in MA. Maybe he doesn't have access to the internet everyday. Maybe he is working, or is on vacation. Why don't we wait until he gets back in the states, and picks up his car from the shop before we start hounding him....

Picked her up Tuesday.
She is running better, but still very much like before.
Throttle response seems crisper, but not much else seems different.
Not much to rave about yet.
I haven't tried to hook up the laptop yet and I doubt I will want to change any of the settings that the shop already tweaked.

My main goal was to get control of fuel and timing to help make the most of the twiggy cams. I now have a spare cylinder head the shop will be using to double check for fitment, lash, tolerances, etc... before we try and swap heads.

I do feel a little disappointed that the AEM does not log AFR along with the other parameters injector duty cycle, both O2 sensor volts, timing, and not sure what else.

kinda dissappointed about afR lOgging too

is the timing thing workihg?

how much to have intalled?
could had u do it urself?

why cant they reflash the ecu? the only reason why no one has done it is because no body wants to hook up a protege, lol. civics have been around for so long now ( regardless that there ecu's are not smart) that there is a bunch of places that reflash there crap, (hondata).

the ecus can be reflashed (mazda offers a reflash). but no shops or companies besides mazda have been able to crack the ecu. i would speculate that the reason because of this is due to our cars being limited production vehicles (market is too small for someone to spend that type of time and money).

Well, here's another long overdue update.

AEM F/IC is installed.
Car can get a little cranky on the highway.
There seems to be a "zone" around 3-3500 rpm at 70 ish MPH where it is misfiring (code P0300). I think this is just a tuning matter.
It's fine almost all the time around town.
It pulls harder when I am in manual mode and using plenty of throttle when up in the higher RPMs.
It will stumble on occassion if I am using light to par-throttle and too hi up in RPMs without lots of fuel.

I have not successfully connected the laptop yet.
My last attempt failed when the battery died while I was installing the new USB drivers and updating the version of AEM software.

what do you mean you havent hooked up the laptop? how did you tune the thing?

Si I guess this hasnt worked out like planned..I know if it did and it was mine..I wuold be posting all kinds of info on it.
Oh well I guess.

yea, i think so too...

but anyways...thnx for trying...

we just have to wait for someone who might get a little more excited and post more info on their install
