AEM ems for Mazda Protege 01+

We fixed a few small issues that arised. Our boxes are now finished and are shipping out on Tuesday. The harness' are being wrapped up as well and will be shipping soon also. The AEM we have designed for the Protege is like no other. You do NOT have to shave cam gear teeth,it's full Seq.uses the IAC and run's everything except the AC and data stream..Also we have it setup so you can use your stock intake air temp and coolant temp sensors. If you want to use aftermarket sensors you can as well.

Cool!!

Everything but stock gauges. The EECV datastream from the stock computer needs to control those.

@Beau: Oh, so the two little Spals come on whenever the AC comes on or when the coolant reaches 185? Neato! No overheating here!
Might as well have the fans come on when I hit boost too to keep the IC cool. :D

I was chatting with Beau and discussing some of the features that he is gonna use the AEM to do. He already set my MIL light to be my shift light (I know, ghey, still cool though) but next he will be setting up the electronic boost controller, the VTCS and the VSS to be controlled by the AEM. Do you guys have any other ideas? Basically, the AEM can control whatever we want it to now.

it's all true.... A.E.M unit could reach over and give you a hand job if you asked it to. no B.S! (bowdown)

A.E.M+protege=sickness

Setup staging for launches... Setup fuel injection timing to compensate for tract reversion during shifts... setup timing fuel adjustments to yield faster spool on your turbo... Setup lean out for cruising if you want fuel economy...

Oh yeah, it will be done! I've got it hooked up to my AEM wideband so it will be easy to tune (for Beau and his clan anyway!)

BTW: what is tract reversion? Is that anything like programmable traction control?

i wouldnt know about the hand job, but my aem'd protege mp3 is the sickness. and the aem is going on my new mp3 soon.

Anything to do with tuning can be done. If you want it to control other things such as nitrous or your neons or whatever, you will have to do some extra wiring. The AEM has a lot of configurable outputs.

Tract reversion is when the air in the intake manifold does weird stuff and stalls out when the throttle body snaps shut and the load comes off the motor... You'll often get an instantaneous lean spot in the fuel map due to the fact that things take a millisecond or so to catch up when you pop that throttle back open for the next shift and the air gets turned around and slammed back into the motor. The only reason I mention it is it can be the "straw that breaks the camels back" in that it can initiate a series of detonation if you are running a ragged tune for maximum power...

I guess the only question I have is why take all these data streams and the like away from the stock ECU in the first place? It does a fine job with speed and mileage and AC and so forth... so why load the EMS with having to do that? And does that lend itself to more stuff the user has to worry about or tune, or is that 100% done and taken care of and no need to worry about it in the future by the time it comes from Beau?

Well, when you pay $500 bucks for a custom harness because you need that stupid oem computer to run the simple stuff, you kinda wish you could just rip it out and save space.

Controlling the AC can be beneficial though. i.e. it can be set to turn off at a given load so that you can maximize "passing power". Also, you can tell the AC fans to come on and leave the compressor off, this is useful if you're running on a hot day and need to cool the IC when you hit boost or if the radiator fan can't cut the mustard itself...
