Advice on putting MSP exhaust on P5

My wife and I just got married. We bought a house and paid for our wedding, so money is really tight. After poking around the forums a bit, it seems that a good inexpensive mod is to put a used MSP exhaust on her P5.

Anyone have any tips for this? Besides the actual muffler, is there anything else I should be looking to get (i.e., pipe to axle, to cat)? Is the installation as simple as it looks? Do I need new hangers?

I searched the formus for help on this -- REALLY! But I came up dry.

First post, so be easy on me! :p

the p5 is shorter than the msp so the exhaust is shorter. thats all i know!

you may need new hangers and mostly like new piping since the msp muffler will stick out since the rear bumper is longer than it is on a p5.

just buy the actual mazdaspeed muffler from the dealer. The racing beat exhuast (stock on MSP) is very quiet and annoyed me greatly. I hatde flying past people and them not hear me coming!

just get a ractive axle back, they are cheap and they sound good without being to loud.

Sounds to me like a custom pipe will fix this. Any ideas what that might cost? Where is the best place to 'make up' the difference? Axle back or betweenthe axel and the cat?

Oh, does anyone have a pic of a MSP exhaust on a P5 (fitted properly of course;) )?

I'm not real up on my mazda mod manufacturers -- where can I find one of these?

most places sell the msp muffler for about $195. the price of piping all depends on where you go. and if you have to shorten which, which i'm 99% sure you will have to, you'll probably have to shorten it at the tip. see the muffler actually sits up almost over the rear axle and just has a small pipe section leading to the edge of the bumper with a tip welded on to it. so you'll probably wanna shorten this section.

skunk2 is loud isn't it? 5zigen is pimp!! :D

if i didnt sell ractive i would have gone with the skunk 2 or maybe even the greddy

Nice...but VERY expensive. You can get an HKS Hi-power Axle-back for $284.83 from http://www.adventon.com.

HKS is reputable. The custom size-fitting pipe shouldn't cost you much at all, as it istn' too long, and doesn't require a lot of bends. Not only that, but you should use the standard galvanized exhaust pipe, its cheap, but durable....you know the same stuff midas uses on its exhausts.

I got a MSP catback installed and the only mod was shortening the exhaust tip by about 2-3 inches, that's it! And I LUVVVVVVVV It!:D

So the MSP exhaust bolts right up and only needs the length of pipe between the muffler and the tip shortened? Great!

Actually, I should invite my buddy down with his MSP and take his off and see for myself... I'll take a picture of it unshortened, and if it is only around $195usd ($250cd??), than that could be one of my first mods... (actually the list seems to be growing)

LAVA: does the MP5 sound almost the same as the MSP now?
