Advice for a 2800 mile road trip in a MSP?

First off, sorry if this isn't the right place to post a topic like this, please move it if needed.




Ok, I'll be leaving Aug 1st with 3 other people in my car to drive from Houston, TX to Sandusky, OH (going to Cedar Point). Any thing I should be aware of when taking a long trip such as this? The drive is 1400 miles each way. We are going to take the drive non-stop...no rests overnight anywhere (i'm not the only one that can drive ). I'm going to chane my oil the day before we leave, as it will be due for one durring our drive. Right now thats all I can think of...the tires are fine...anything I should consider? Anybody else taking long trips in thier MSP's?

I went about that long Dallas - Orlando, but split it into two 9 hour days.

Just let your car cool down a lot at each rest stop and you'll be fine.

that's a hella long drive to go to Cedar Point?! If it is the coasters, maybe hit King's Island just north of Cincinnati on your way thru to ride the 'Son of Beast'?

Simple... Just modify your car to about 100000000 whp and about 10000000002 wtq and then you can do the whole drive in about hmmm 2 seconds

But if you do boost a lot and come to a stop, of course remember to let the car idle for a couple minutes to cool the turbo - if you don't have a TT.

i've driven mine several 9+ hr road trips...i always bring a tool set & torque wrench.

I don't know if I'd drive a turbo car 1400 one way non-stop, and then back again. IMHO that's asking for trouble, if not right then, then sometime down the road. You really should take frequent stops to let it cool down. Or rent a Focus.

Well, you're gonna be stopping for gas around 5 times anyway. I don't think you'll run into overheating problems if you're not boosting 100% of the time

Some of those things are rediculous. If your car is stock, you will have no problem driving it as far as you want (upped boost would not be as good for it). I drove my first one from North Idaho to Rhode Island and back when I first got it. Get a TT so you don't have to worry about remembering to let it cool down. Check your fluids before you go. If you don't already use a full synthetic change to one. If you have time construct an IC water sprayer so you can cool your IC down from time to time (this would be very beneficial). Give your car a good wax or two before you go (this will protect the exterior from all of the crap). Don't gun it every chance you get, but at stock boost this will not overheat your turbo unless something is wrong with the car. Make sure to fill up with the highest octane gas you can find. Some of the Sunoco stations on the freeways offer 94 and 95 octane. I drove between 65 and 90 the whole way with very few stops and no problems.

If you value your car's finish, I suggest a bra.(yes) At a minimum, use the piece that covers the front part of the hood. The bumper you can get away with leaving alone cause it's got flex in the paint, but the hood WILL chip if you don't protect it. (notcool) Just make sure that if it rains, u don't leave it on there cause it will cloud the paint. (headshake)

OR

ask one of those 3 people to use THEIR car for the trip, instead of your MSP
