Adjusting Headlights on a 1997 Mazda Prtege

Hello,

I noticed recently that my low-beams were not adjusted correctly. I followed the instruction in my Haynes manual by placing tape on a wall to mark the vehicle centre, and headlight center and height. I then backed up 25 feet.

I found the adjustment screws near the fender (for left and right adjustment) and on the housing towards the center of the car (for up and down).

The low beam height is correct and the high beams are reasonable. However, I have two problems:

1) I am having a lot of difficulty adjusting the lights left and right. The passenger light is pointing well away from the car to the right. The driver's light is pointing at the car centre line.

2) Also the high beams are pointing about where they should be (according to the manual, at the "high intensity zone") despite the low beams being adjusted to different positions. I was able to adjust the drivers light to the left (ie away from the centre) however the high beam moved to the left as well.

I would appreciate some advice on how to fix this (especially pt #2 above).

Thank you,

Marcus
