Adding GPS SD card to a 2022 CX-5 Turbo

:
2022 CX-5 Turbo
Just added a GPS SD card I bought to my 2022 CX5 Turbo, which did not come with the card (only Signature model does).
What it enables:
1. GPS map, of course, plus navigation guidance in HUD.
2. Sign/speed recognition. Signs show up in dash as well as in HUD.
3. Due to speed limit info being available now (from #2), there is a red line on the speedometer to indicate speed limit.

For $50 (saw one less than $40 on Amazon today), it is a bargain.
For $450 Mazda dealers ask for? Your call.
Just to share.

Only problem is I doubt you'll be able to do map updates. You should try and see if it tells you it's a counterfeit card. The one I bought from Amazon wouldn't update but the one I got with the GTR would.

I've updated my Amazon-obtained card installed in my 2020 CX-5 along with the OEM version in my MX-5 GT... there's been no difference over 2 updates between them.... of course ymmv depending on the source of the Amazon vendor.

Possible, but I don't plan to update it.
I will use AndroidAuto/googlemap if I have to.

We paid $29 for the SD Navigation card for our 2025 Mazda CX5 Turbo Premium from Amazon. Everything works perfectly in the Navigation and the HUD display. We did the same on our 2021. China, cheating Mazda. That's what China does.

Has anyone updated a non Mazda purchased SD card? What was the last update you were able to do? What year Mazda was it used in? Is there any way to tell what version card you have? I couldn't find anything on my 2025 CX5 display but I did on my 2020 Miata RF

I bought a used 2016 MX back in 2019. It didn't come with a card, and I bought one on Amazon, $80 at the time. The first card that I received didn't work AT ALL. I contacted the seller and was sent a new card, one that worked this time.

After inserting the card in the slot on the MX, with the car off, I drove the required 63 miles to 'mate' the card to the car. The card worked perfectly but with older map data. After that I was able to update the card 3 times within the next 3 years. Still works fine but the data from 2022.

I bought a card off of Amazon and one off eBay, both cards are not found by the Mazda Update Toolbox. I have a 2025 Turbo premium and even the new version of the software won't recognize the cards.

Were the cards recognized by your CX? Can you see the files on the cards when inserted into your computer?

Like I said above. the first card that I was sent was bad. When I inserted it into the reader on my car, the car didn't recognize that a card was inserted. When I inserted the card into my PC, I could see files on the card, but Mazda ToolBox couldn't 'see' the card at all. The second card sent worked flawlessly.

We just got a new 2025 CX5 Turbo Premium and bought a $29 nav card off Amazon last week and installed the SD card and everything works including the Active Driving Display. Shows speed limits signs etc. We did the same thing on our 2021 Mazda CX5 turbo GTR with no issues. Good luck

Just for your information:

When you buy a new Mazda with the Mazda MZD or Mazda Connect infotainment system in the Netherlands (and I think also in other European countries), you get an original Mazda Nav SD card for free.

Both my CX-3 cars came with a free 3-year subscription to new European maps. My current CX-5 from 2023 came with a free 5-year subscription.

When I have all the maintenance done at my Mazda dealer (which is recommended for the warranty), I get a discount on the next subscription period.
