Adding Fogs to a 2010 Touring

So we bought a touring and it didn't come with Fogs. I want to add them and wondered if anyone else has done this themselves. The only part I really question is how do you turn them on with a GT and if it's on the stalk or not.

If it's a switch on the dash, I can handle that but if it's part of the stalk, well that seems like it might be a bit more challenging. Hard to say without see it I guess.

Anybody with a 2010 GT please let me know how you turn on your fogs and anybody who's installed them on their own, please let me know how it went.

Otherwise I may be the first on the board to submit a write-up.

Thanks

I have thought about doing this upgrade, but Mazda has over-priced these things so much that I can't see myself paying $400-$500 for a set-up.

If you actually need fog lights, there are two options to save $$:

1. You buy the factory lights and brackets, but install your own wiring kit and relay and get a nice automotive look switch for the dash.

2. You buy a set of after market lights and mount them discretely in the smiley face, with your own wiring. Perhaps a couple of bullet lights mounted in drilled holes.

Option one is what I've been considering frankly.

This lets me keep the looks of OEM on the outside and then I can run whatever bulb, power, and switch setup I want inside. The wiring will be a bit of a hassle but not a big deal I suppose.

I plan to check the factory relay box and if there's already a relay for the fogs that's simply not being used. Tapping into that would be ideal. I guess I'll take a look and start planning it.

Definitely NOT having the stealership install anything, that's for sure.

Thanks

Yep....got a couple 12V relays already but thanks for that link.

Wiring a set of fogs won't be my first rodeo. I have a few things lying around left over from when I built one of these:

I even built the 408 that was in it and assembled the Aussie racing heads myself. Made 480hp which was fun in a 2300lb car.

I'd bent a center console out of .040 sheet AL for a switch panel for the car and never used it. Took me a year to build the car and I finally sold it in 2007 shortly after I started a family.

It's the usual story...sell the sports car and get the crossover after you have kids etc.

I have these contura comfort switches and a variety of illuminated cover switches.

I actually have a bunch of stuff like this I should unload on Craigslist soon.

Never mind. You know what you're doing.

I really like the contour switches. Would those fit in the lower left location where the TCS button is?

I'm going to take a look and see. I haven't taken the time to measure anything or even consider where I want to mount it.

I like the switches on the link you sent. Smaller, more discrete, and less race car looking.

I'm having second thoughts about the switch gear altogether. If I ever go to sell the car, it would probably be best to have it all OEM instead of an off colored, after market switch down there. Maybe I can find a wrecked CX-9 or CX-7 or similar Mazda OEM switch instead.

Do you have an i SV or i Sport? I have an i Sport, and the harness and relays are already there and in place. The OEM Fog light kit is just the 2 fogs and hardware, and you would need the foglight switch that is a direct replacement for you headlight on/off switch.

Unfortunately if you have an i SV, you can get the fog lights only, and buy an aftermarket harness and switch. You can still do that with the i Sport, but since everything is there minus the switch and lights, id just use the harness thats there.

?? an i SV?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I have a touring and it would appear based on the website from Mazda that the CX-9 comes with fog lights if you get a grand touring and that's it. Not optional on sport or touring period. I don't know where you get the i or the SV.

This is a 2010 CX-9

I suspected the controls were on the stalk and the solution is a replacement stalk switch. I have yet to confirm if I have the wiring already in place but it would make sense if it were there. Hope you are correct about that.

Thanks.

I was speaking on the Mazda3. Woops, i completly posted in the wrong section, after completing a Mazda3 Fog Light search. hahaha (uhm)

Anyways, i do not know about the stock harness with the CX9. But in the past, Mazda and Ford both have placed the harness' in the vehicles off the assembly lines and just the physical lights/brackets and the switches are the only thing spared and installed only at dealers and with packages.

Besides the flub up on the post, lol. Im curious to hear if you still have the harness.

I figured as much. I hope you're right though.

Im almost 99% right with the foglight switch. If the switch is on the Headlight stick, replacing the stick with one w/the fog switch will now operate the harness, it has to do with the pin connectors on the stick and the connector that is located on the steering column.

If the switch is usually on the dash/side of dash, remove the plastic where the switch usually is and see if the harness is there. Sometimes they hook the connector into a dummy piece of plastic w/o the switch because the option for fogs (or whatever accessory it was) was not ordered with the vehicle.

First thing you can do is lay underneith the front of the vehicle, you might have to remove some of the push clips on the engine splash sheild to pull it back, and with a flash light, shine it up near where the fogs should be. You may see the harness there, and its not terminated (plugged into anything). Like on my 3, i have the harness and there is a plastic clip just connecting it/holding it to the side of my trans cooler on one side and the washer fluid overflow on the other.
