Activating the Fuel Computer Display on Sport models

Ok, I found this on the Mazda3 forum and tried it on my CX-7. It works, shows trip time, average mpg, etc. However, I have not figured out how to switch over to mile/hr and not km/hour.

Update:

What a sh1tty forum, could no link directly to the other forum so had to cut and paste instructions, gay. (notcool)

1. Get in car and close door.
2. Put key into ignition (DO NOT TURN YET!)
3. Hold down the AM/FM button AND the CD button.
4. With your other hand (while still holding the buttons) turn your key to the ACC position. The Hello message will appear on your display, and as soon as it goes away it will be replaced by DIS ON.
5. You may now let go of the AM/FM button and CD button.
6. Turn ignition off.
7. Turn your car on and drive away!

PS. You will note that you will need to push the "Set" button to toggle through the different Driver Info modes.

I want to try this, but I have the GT/Tech package.

I can follow all the instructions, up to the "Set" button... anyone know what the equivalent of this would be on the Tech package?

Yeah, if anyone can figure out how to activate it with the Tech package that'd be awesome! :D

Confirmed on the GT - Canada. Without tech package.

I drove around the parking lot at work but displays all still read 0.0 or ------
Is there a minimum distance to get any kind of reading?

Also, assuming that this display works, and is displaying valid consumption figures, why would it not be active from time of purchase ? Seems like a good selling feature?

The computer in the US models does not calculate these figures. You can "activate" it but all you will ever get is 0.0 and ------.

Someone with a dash hawk plugged directly into the OBDII port also confirmed that you can't get the mileage numbers.

So, only on Pluto then, kailua ? (wink)

yup, confirmed it we are screwed out of this function. Mazda is just teasing us with the being able to see the display but not actually showing any info. Just like how non-GT models have no ambient temp button or sensor. It's just like the cost-cutting for no foglight harness for sport models without power seat option. Even if you buy the accessory fog light kit no dice. Amazing that a $14K Mazda3 would have this function and a aux ipod jack standard but not the CX-7. This probably will be standard on the 08 model.

I am starting to think that I may have to sell the ride and go back something a little better equipt. It was a nice first production year experiment driving the CX but there are some real shortcomings with living with it on a day to day basis. My 06 Tacoma double cab got better gas mileage than the CX-7 and it is a 4.0 V6 and not too lightweight of a vehicle.

Does not work with Tech Package/Navigation. I've tried the trick plus I've read numerous other posts here and on other Mazda forums stating the same thing.
