A stock mp3 seeking more than 12psi (finally!)

Well...after 6 months of paying off past due bills and whatnot, i can finally put money towards my car! (woo!) Now im very new to turbo's and imports, but im extremely eager to get started with this project. Starting next check, ill be putting around 500 to 800 dollars into my car (every check - i get paid the 15th and 30th).

At the moment, im doing searches to better educate myself of certain parts, but would like more of a open opinion from others on how i should get started.

you are gonna need a p5 ecu (cuz the mp3 is advanced timing and bad for turbo) i would be very willing to trade ya! pm me !!!
 
may as well save untill you have enough for the kit then upgrade stuff as needed.

If you wanna be prepared when the boost comes, might want to start with clutch flywheel, lsd, motormounts, gauges. 12psi you will need engine mgmt. no one know how this engine will withstand 12 psi for a long time.
 
you should upgrade to forged internals if you want to go over 10psi for a continued amount of time, larger injectors will be needed too

Yea i was questioning on either setting up for the turbo first, or getting the kit first. Wasn't sure though...
 
The stock internals should handle 12 psi no problem with proper tuning. Forged isn't necesary, but might be a good idea.

You don't need to swap ECUs, because you will have to go with a piggy back or some other way to control timing and fuel as it is. That will overide the stock ECU anyway.

As mentioned a clutch might be a good idea, and so would LSD.

But probably the most important thing is to do your research before spending and have a good time with it.

Not necessarily...

If he got the right timing controls, he can save himself the headaches of changing out an ECU that will throw a CEL due to the VTCS (or whatever the hell it is) of the P5 not being in the MP3. Here is a good example of what I am talking about;
