k, i installed my cai today, but had no instructions (since it was used) so i did it without any help. i was putting this piece in (sorry i dont know what its called) and was trying to take off the nut. in doing so, if u see the two hoses that connect to that single piece? the nozzles that hold the hoses broke. its plastic and im trying to glue it back together right now. im pretty sure its vaccum hoses that connect to it. um... any idea if i can drive? how much itll cost to reorder that one piece or anything else u feel like saying (helpful things :P) haha. thanks! - chris

its an $80 part, some kind of vaccum thing, my brother and I broke his when we put his cai on too
you probably can drive, but I'm not sure how much it would affect the car, we didnt drive the car without it.
but it is for sure an $80 part

hmm i drove around tonight, no CEL or any problems. i used the extra vaccum hose from the stock intake and connected the two hoses together since i could feel one sucking and one not doing anything, so i just put two n two together. $80? dawmm. thanks for the info. anyone else? - chris

It will eventually throw a CEL. I did the same thing and it lasted about 2 weeks before it hit the CEL.

Damn, I wish I could help you out before you did the installation. I went thru the same problem when I did mine, I used too much force trying to take the nuts off, end of breaking the freakin plastic piece like you did. I was scared for a moment there, then eggynatey asked me how bad the crack was and told me I should try and glue it back on (with those mixed glue).
Anyway, long story short, I end of paying $60 bucks to the dealer (luckly they had the part in stock), and I also asked the tech about the broken plastic peice -- if I can drive with cracked hose that's glued. He told me I "may" be able to last for a bit, but in a long run you'll get CEL from time to time.
Though, even tho I don't really wanted to pay the $60 bucks, but the result looked very clean.

My suggestion: buy a new one. I would rather be safe than sorry.

hmm thanks for the info. i hope they have that part in stock :(. just gotta wait until monday and see what happens. thanks guys again - chris

What the hell is a CEL? I've seen it mentioned a lot and I've tried searching, but I've never been able to find an explination.

Guys, Im installing my Injen CAI in the next 2 days.
What would you guys recommend on doing to prevent damaging
this peice. I dotn wanna spend 80$

Take this thread as a lesson. First try and the bolt off, I know some members are able to take it off very easily, as older model of P5 are tighter. However, DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE, if you think you're going to use too much force and might break it. Then leave it! some member suggest leaving the metal plate on and twisty tie it on the sway bar.

Purge Valve Sensor or something. I'm in the catagory of broken as well. But I used the hose that you pull out, cut a slit in it so that i could fit it around the old hose, then atached the other end to the sensor, and taped it to hell. I'm glad to hear its only $80 since I'm going to get it fixed someday. But I've had no problems so far. My nut was on WAY too tight, I suggest NOT holding the sensor in your had while trying to take the nut off. What I finally did was used pliars to grab onto the brass part as hard as i could with, then braced the had that was holding the pliars on the strut bar and twisted the nut as hard as I could. It finally came off, but the paint on the bar got chipped, on the back side, so I'm going to paint it blue one day. This is how I did it, if you can get it to work without chipping the paint, cool, but if your not careful, it will chip the paint. Maybe lay a cloth on the bar...

You might want to try this next time. Slice the hose length wise just to the end of the plastic fitting, then trim of the part you cut and the hose is good enough to use again. If not, hose is cheaper to replace than that damn fitting! You could also try to heat it up with a blow drier and slowly pull on the hose to remove it. The first way works alot better though!

i had a similar problem installing my CAI. i unbolted that whole assembly and had trouble finding a good spot for it because the picture in the instructions was unclear. i eventually found one but pulled the shorter hose off i had no idea what while trying to make it reach the new location. drove the car for a few days thinking that hose was meant to just hang there. the car had a rough idle and thew the CEL the next day. then i found the fitting the hose went on and it was no problem from there. i dont think u can harm the car by driving w/ the hose disconnected, its only a vacuum leak.

update* dont break that little crap piece. cost me $86.00 today at mazda and on back order. today, i didnt have the broken piece connected cause i was letting the glue settle. lucky thing it was in my car because i stopped for gas and my CEL came on and my car would start, then stall like 2 seconds later. i kept retrying to start it but nothing. then after i put the broken piece back in, the car started fine. hope it holds until i get the new piece. - chris

My dealership today quoted me $71 but they don't normally stock it. My ghetto style hook up has worked fine for 2 weeks now. But I'm going to replace all my broken pieces once my last settlement check comes.
