A/C turns off when the fan speed is set to 4.

I have searched the forum and I'm a bit confused as to what the issue is..

Is the fan switch gone bad or the fan resistor?

It's a well-documented problem. The cause is a burnt contact on the harness plugging into the HVAC unit. Remove the HVAC unit and look at the large (6 wire I believe) harness plugged into the back of it. Guarantee you'll find that it's burnt.

It could also be the switch itself, it's about $35 at mazda.
