A/C Clutch Bolt

The A/C quit working and I was looking over some possible causes when I noticed the clutch plate wasn't parallel with the pulley. After seeing that I reached down and touched it and it was all loose and then I saw the issue. Apparently the bolt fell out at some point and thats one reason it may not be working. Now my issue is finding another one. Have any of you run into this yet and have bought a replacement? I saw one thread on here where they found a bolt but didnt know the size. Anyone come up with some solutions other than a new compressor? The car is a 2002 LX with the 2.0L.

The parts diagram to the 2.0L engine indicates that bolt has its own part number and so can be purchased from Mazda separately from the compressor. I've attached the relevant page of the parts manual, but the part number is illegible. I'm sure any Mazda dealership's parts department can help you figure out the right part number. I suggest calling or e-mailing onlinemazdaparts.com--they have great prices and excellent customer service.

I decided to go up to Advance Auto Parts to see what types of general purpose bolts they had and came back with one. The part number is 980-220 and is a flanged head class 10.9 M6-1 bolt that is 20mm long. I measured the hole to be about 25mm deep with a piece of wire so thats why I went with the 20mm. A test fit and a little blue locktite later and the AC is back up and going strong. My outer clutch piece was not off so the shims I just assumed were still there since I didn't feel any binding by hand.

That #7 bolt in the picture was the one I was looking at to see it was a flanged bolt. Thanks for posting that diagram too.

Anyway just thought I would put that out there incase anyone else ran into the issue.
