A/C blows warm air under heavy or wide open throttle acceleration

Hi,

We just had a humid and hot spell and I noticed the air conditioning system in the CX-9
blows warm air under heavy or wide open throttle acceleration.

I'm assuming this is how the vehicle was designed:
The compressor turns off under heavy acceleration to keep more power going to the wheels.
No compressor running, no cold air....

If that's the case then there must be a WOT (wide open throttle) relay under the hood that
disconnects the compressor clutch when you get near WOT and allows the vehicle to have
more acceleration when needed.

Can anyone confirm this or experience the same situation with their CX-9 AC system ?

AC cutout relay.webp

thanks very much.

That is normal. I know on all my vehicles that have working A/C act the same way.

There isn’t a relay per se for the WOT, it’s tied into the Throttle Position Sensor(TPS). When the throttle position reaches a specific angle(sensed by the TPS), the engine computer sees that as WOT and goes into “WOT mode.” Many parameters change, one being disengaging the A/C compressor.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Odrapnew, your explanation helped a lot, much appreciated, cheers!
