- 98 Protege LX
Hey,
I have a 98 Protege LX w/ 1.8L DOHC 16v Engine (According to protegefaq.net), BP-DE. I talked to one of my friends, and he says that the Mazda BP series are bullet-proof, and I can run 8lbs of boost no-problem. (His brother was the source of the information, and he used to work at a Mazda Dealership / Currently fulltime automechanic. Also the one that would be sourcing out the parts for me). Would any engine mods need to be done to turbo my protege (Reenforced pistons, block, etc..)? Any suggestions / ideas on this as well? Anyone have any experience with this that could point me in the right direction? I'm extremly new to all of this, but have more then enough ambition. I've also read that there are no turbo-kits avaiable for the 2nd gen protege, and it would all have to be custom made (More then willing to do that), so has anyone done this that has some advice on what they've done?
"You can also add just the turbo and manifold to your N/A BP engine,
along with a front mount intercooler and other add on electronics. " From protegefaq.net suggests that it should be fine to strap the turbo on it, but what electronics would have to be added?
Anyways, so if anyone has any advice that can point me in the right direction, that would be appericated. Thanks!
