97 Protege A/C issue

to begin im not 100% sure the issue is with my A/C compressor but that is my leading suspect.

my car has had a major squealing belt issue ever since i broke off a deflector under my passenger side.

ne ways i think a bearing is gone in my AC compessor, i figure if it was my waterpump , power steering, or alternator i might have noticed by now. and the biggest clue is if i even think about turning on my AC it reminds me by making a squeal so loud i swear my ears bleed.

so onto my actual question:

I live i n Canada, so i dont need AC, can i buy a belt for a model without AC and just bypass the AC? or does this HAVE to be replaced? ive also heard of parts that will bolt on in place of the compressor to make my belt fit, but serves no acutal purpose.. does said part actually exist?

thanks in advance.. im sure you can tell by my post that ima car noob, with limited knowledge, but any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

yes, u should be able to get a belt that'll bypass the a/c, I don't think you'll need another part to idle the belt if u get one that specifically bypasses the a/c compressor. Also, just a suggestion: since you're not going to use the a/c, why not remove the system altogether ?

I think you may have posted in the wrong section though, you might get more help in the protege section.

thanks, ill be getting a new belt today..

and ya ur prolly right, i didnt see the protege section until after i posted this

and removing the whole AC system would most likely be a good idea i most likely will go that route, but i didnt wanna do anything until i had a little more info
