If you can't obtain any more than 91 Octane locally .. IS there anything you can do safely to get the proper performance out of the MazdaSpeed6 ? Also What impact is only running 91 going to have ...

The original sales brochure for the MS6 listed *91 octane minimum. Honestly, I think you'll be fine with a factory tune @91 octane. I run 92 all the time in my MS3 with no issues.

I only use Sunoco Super 94 octane in my MS6.

running 91 is not going to harm the car. running 87 like one of my customers decided to do will harm the car :) doh

You could get some octane booster if ya really feel the need to have a higher octane. Don't think it'd take too much either. Of course it'd be a hassle to put in every tank but if ya really want a higher octane.

Is it ok to put that octane boost in? I saw a few different bottles of it .. some say 10 pts or 15 pts .. 10pts=1 octane according to one bottle .. The most common octane boost I see around here doesnt even say what it does, but also claims to clean the engine (good or bad feature?) ...

Ill definately stay away from 87 ...

Im going on a trip to windsor, ontario through the US (through detroit, michigan .. ) Ill be sure to find some good stuff while Im down there... :)

Anyone run octane boost here?

Lots of people use the crap down here but i myself have never used it. We always have 93 octane at the pumps. Whats hard is trying to find a gas station with its highest at 91. Just don't go too overboard with the octane booster and you'll be ok. lol. I'd wait on some advice from someone here who's really used it before or ask the guys at your local automotive place though.

Thanks Chief! ... I'll see what i can dig up around here while I wait to find out on here what others have tried ...

You will only find 94 at the Sunoco stations, the rest of the stations only have 91. There use to be some stations that carried 93 but they discontinued that about 3 years ago.

If you are taking the Ambassador Bridge and head South down Huron Line there will be a Sunoco about 3-4 miles on your right side.

Good Luck!

hmm ok thanks! .. We dont have a Sunoco local, but while im in Windsor Ill be sure to grab some ..

there is a race fuel additive for non leaded gas called Torco. If you look it up, you can buy it by the case and it is a real octane booster. If you cant find 93 octane this may be something you want to look into. I think a bottle of it into a full tank of 87 octane gas makes 96-100 octane. Its not the fake sht. I know guys who use this on high hp cars.

Anyone try that Torco stuff? I didnt see it on the shelf around here .. but doesnt mean I cant order it i suppose ..

I found this chart but find it fairly confusing:

I believe the U.S. used the AKI (r+m)/2 method for octane rating, so using 91 octane, and NOS racing formula gives you 93 octane

Edit: I just realized I have no idea if your in U.S or in Canada, so I don't know if that even helped, sorry

That Torco stuff looks deadly .. I might have to try some later, ship it to michigan and head over and get it ...

Im in Canada BTW - Ill update my profile :P

i wouldnt trust the nos additives or any other. They say they raise the octane by points. 6 points added to 93 octane makes it 93.6 octane. Its a big scam. The torco stuff works because its highly concentrated race fuel

475 Airport road .. I wonder if thats actually at the airport :P .. I am going to have to go for a spin and see if they sell to the public, I didnt realize there was any gas stations out in that part of town at all ... Thanks Brian

I hope they do, As a minimum they will sell it in containers. I don't think it's worth the trouble to Gas Can your car, but perhaps for Track Days or if you really want to giver' s***.

PS They probably sell actual 101 and 116 as well.. They do here in Ottawa at the Airport if you ask nice...
