91 mx6 keeps killing ECM's

I have owned a 91 MX6 LX for about 5 years, great little car and fun to drive. It's got about 160,000 miles on it. The only problem I've had with it that it keeps killing the ECM. This is the third one. Any ideas what is causing this?

Just a guess...Could it be your electrical system...A short in the system perhaps?

(bump) for more input from the community! :D

I got spark at the coil but no spark after the distibuter. The ECM is in the distributer, right? That is the part that keeps going out. Two of them in three days.

ECM on that is near the firewall inside the car, passenger side under the carpet. Do you mean igniter? WHen the car doesn't start, you have spark at the coil, but not at say cyl #1? If thats the case, I'd be looking at the cap and rotor.

When it died the second time I put a whole different distributer in it. I used the same cap, It looked good. It ran for a few days then died again. I can remove and replace any part of a car. But my diagnosing skills are left to be desired .I would love to figure out what keeps blowing the ignitor. Those little things are kind of spendy. It's a fun little car with gas mileage. I'm going to fix it up for my daughters high school car.

sounds like a short check the yellow wire that feeds back to both the ecu and the ip cluster could be getting shourted to gound frying ignitors.

Thanks jville. I will definetly check that. I'll you all know if that fixes it. If not I'll let you know.
