So I picked up my new 2008.5 Speed from the dealer with 9 miles on it. As a courtesy they give you the car with a full tank of gas. While he handed over the keys, he added with a big smile that the tank was full. My obvious question was what octane and he said 87 is what they always put (pissed). What dumb dealers??(bang). I have been taking it very easy till this tank finishes. Can't wait to put in 93. Pissed the hell out of me ! Brainless numbnuts !

Back to OT: That's ridiculous that the damn dealer put in 87. Then again, they don't know s*** about cars. If that happened to me, I would do what guy above said, take it back and have them refill it right and if they deny it, threaten to give the dealership bad reviews. How YOU doin!?

Even though I didn't like the dealer I bought my MS3 from, and made me fill it up, at least they simply gave me a slip to give to the gas station so it would be charged to them -- I filled it up and made sure to get 93 Octane.

Never drive out of the dealership unless it is right! The louder you get the more likely they are to give you what you want to shut up. You are detouring business by making a scene. the 87 octane will not hurt your car nor effect break in, all cars are primarily already broken in. I would however expect a free tank of premium. Wouldnt surprise me though if he told you that to see what you do.
Yeah, they did the same thing for me. Got a $20 voucher for gas I think.

On the octane, I know that as long as I go easy on it, it will not cause any pinging and it should be ok. Already down to a 1/4 tank. I did tell the salesman to make a note of it for future customers. They tried to tell me that most customers are ok with it since it is not that big a deal ! At that point I was going to shove his face into the gas tank so I just decided not to argue with him anymore. Not worth spoiling the new car moment

No one should ever accept delivery until everything is right. None of this "we'll fix that scratch later" or "I promise that I'll give you those floor mats when they come in" crap flies. The sale isn't final until you drive it off the lot; make sure everything's right! I agree that I would have had them pump the tank and fill it with the good stuff...

One more in a long line of "never trust the dealer". When the salesman was taking mine to put gas in it, I asked him what flavor. He grinned and said, "93 -- that's all it should ever get." Good man, Charlie Brown.
I would tell them I wanted it noted with the service department and a written letter from the dealer stating that they filled it with a type of gas that was not compliant with the owner's manual. One tank of 87 probably doesn't really matter but...if I had a letter from them and, god forbid, ever did have ANY problems (warranty or not), I would **** them on the repairs. I don't care if the stereo stopped working...I would blame it on the 87. But...then again...I'm a huge dick also.

Note that when the car sense that there is 87 octane in the tank, it automatically retards performance. I think that the manual said it can a couple more tanks of 91+ octane before all the power is restored. Who knows, but don't be too worried if you aren't getting all your juice when you put in your first tank of proper gas.

I'd suggest that once you're down to 1/2 a tank, fill it with 93. That'll give you 90 +/-. Once it's at 1/2 again, fill it again. That'll be 92 +/-. Not an earth-shattering event, just shows how stupid some dealers are. I've heard stories of Dodge dealers telling Hemi owners they have eight spark plugs.
