626 mani info

I was just gonna buy one from a member but backed out because of all the confusion or whether or not it run's better or worse. Or if it looses low end and gain's top end, which it supposedly does. But there are cold start issue's. Not a biggie though.

I think the stock manifold is fine for the most part. I'm happy with it, obviously be better if ported.
I just wouldn't wanna buy a 626 manifold, install it and be dissapointed after all the hard work and money. That's just me.

newbie question about the 626 manifold; is it only of benefit on boosted cars? or are there benefits on regular proteges?
maybe a simple list would help, like which year 626 for the donor, and what years of proteges it fits.

fits all 1.8 and 2.0 engines from 99 to 03. there really is no reason to put it on an n/a engine unless you just have to have that last modification. now i say that and yet i can refer you to three n/a folks who swear it made them a difference on the top end. one dyno sent to me showed 5 whp gain on a 1.8 engine.

I am getting ready to have my car put on a dyno so I can get a base line, I am also going to put a 626 manifold on the car. So Ken if you want to work something out that way you can get a good dyno sheet to post let me know, but like you said most people still will believe what they want.

I have tested this manifold since my car come with it stock, its a 626 year 2000, without any vics or vtcs valve etc... I bought another protege 2003 manifold, swap it in, then went out for a ride to datalog the AFR.

The result is, with protege manifold, there's a gain around 3krpm then it goes pig rich at high end 5000+. It means the air flows better around 3krpm. And thats about it. I swaped back my 626 manifold and the top end is much leaner, so it means more airflow. My opinion is the 626 manifold is a good choice if you run a big turbo and want to make high hp.
