626 Idle Speed Question

Does anyone here own a 626, or at least know a bit about them?

My car has had some idling issues since i bought it. But lately, it has been idling lower than usual.

When i start the car, the rpm jumps up to around 1250-1500rpm, like it should. But then it takes a long time to drop down to idle speed from there, longer than the other cars i've driven. When it eventually does drop back down, it drops to somewhere between 500-750rpm. Is this normal?

And then if i press the brake pedal to shift out of park, it goes even lower. Same if i roll the windows down (or up). Yes, i know that is normal, but it drops a good 50rpm or so for either of those two.

I am not in extreme temperatures or anything, i live in Jersey so that's not really a problem.

What i want to know is, what is a normal idle speed for the 2 liter 626? And if my idle speed is low, what can i do to fix it?

What year 626? Start by cleaning the throttle body and idle speed control motor. Back out your minimum air screw a little bit (next to the throttle plate linkage- use a screwdriver) and you should be good. It will tell you on the hood sticker what rpm should be set. I'm guessing 750 is the magic number. Does it idle up when you turn on the a/c?

Heh. I will definitely try and figure out how to do all that, and may attempt it. As you may guess, i am not very car savvy.

I was thinking something more along the lines of CFoam, and then changing the spark plugs?

I have a 2001 626, the 2.0L version

Do i have to remove anything to clean the "throttle body" and "idle speed control motor"?

I have not checked to see if the A/C affects the rpms. but the A/C isn't working properly right now (may need freon), dunno if that will affect it. I'll go check now though.

Edit: heh. I just checked it out. The hood sticker says that the normal idle speed for the automatic transmission is 650rpm, which would put it pretty much right on the button. This is strange, as it used to idle higher than it is now. I checked the a/c, and all it did was make the rpm needle flicker a little, and then it went back to idle postition (again, the a/c isn't working properly right now, so it didn't stay on).
