5w-20

I brought the car in for it's 5K service (they called it 3,750) and they used 5w-20. Do I call up and b**** or just wait it out and change to 5w-30 PP in 2-3k miles?

I did my first oil change at 2,800 using 5w-30 Penzoil conventional.

Just called and they said the tech definitely used 5w-30. He also told me the invoice is pretty generic (... ok).

I know the parts guy so i'll ask him about.

I tried, but my speech dictation software would've... ALRIGHT ALREADY I'LL TAKE OUT THE DAMN TRASH... picked up me saying it out loud anyway.

well there goes another keyboard...
(sour milk smell all day long...)

I wouldn't buy the "generic invoice entry" crap. I've seen that on some other threads. One more reason to let someone besides the dealer do the maintenance .

This "generic invoice" crap is getting ridiculous. This is like the 5th thread I've read about this 5W-20 crap going in an MS3 by mistake in the past 2 or 3 months. I knew I wasn't taking advantage of my dealer's offer of free oil changes for life for a reason. If I'm going to bring my car in for service I want EXACTLY what was done to the car on the invoice. The only thing both you and the dealer have to prove otherwise is the invoice. Everything else is hearsay. If I were you, I'd change the oil yourself right away (or have someone help you) and send a sample off to Blackstone labs for analysis for $25. I'd even video tape the whole thing so there is a time/date stamp on it. Blackstone would be able to tell you if it were 5W-20 or 30. Or if you're not as vindictive as I am, you can just pay to get it changed by another dealer. :D

I did not even take the dealer up on the free 1st oil change as I don't trust them to work on my car. They did give me a free oil filter. I just changed my oil this past weekend and the oil smelled of fuel and was very thin. This car is hard on oil so use the synthetic. I use M1 extended performance every 5000 miles. I might go to 4000 miles after seeing the oil from my last change.

Oil can be black as tar and appear dirty but still have the viscosity to protect your engine.

+1 for frequentflyer on the blackstone oil analysis! They can tell you exactly what is in your oil and its condition. Using this data you can determine if you actually need to be changing your oil as often or infrequent as you do.
