This, for me, is wagon nirvana!

From: Dieselstation.com

"The new Audi RS6 Avant has 580hp from a twin turbo V10 motor producing 479 lb/ft of torque? Other nice touches include ceramic brakes, dynamic ride control, 6 speed tiptronic transmission, and of course the quattro AWD. Who wants to go get groceries now? Read more for wallpapers and official press release."

for when you absolutely need to go to the grocery store for some crucial ingridient for the meal you are making and you have no time to waste :)

Audi makes the hottest wagons out there. Bar none. I would buy that in a second (if I could afford it!)

I have these two pics set as screensavers right now. Absolutely amazing car - I think I found a replacement for my P5!

...now if only it was available in a standard 6-speed. Don't get me wrong, I know Audi's/VW's DSG is amazing but to me it takes away from the fun of driving a little.

Rid-onc-ulous! I love it! Totally anti-green and unnecessary, but awesome nonetheless.

+1, but I guess resistance is futile, DSG is getting extremely advanced, My bet is that soon they will also be cheap enough to compete with MT... Clutch pedal, huh? What is that?... :(

Yeah, this is already bordering off-topic but check this DSG vs. 6MT video. Yes, DSG is boring, but hell fast.

tiptronic... lame..
Agreed, but I'm certain it's quite a bit more advanced than anything us Mazda owners will ever see. I assume it utilized paddle-shifters and Audi's DSG transmission system so shifts will be fast and precise. But yeah, not so much fun IMO.

All you tiptronic haters need to just accept that its the future. I for one while I prefer a manual, with tiptronic you get the best of both worlds, fast crisp shifts and the ability to put it in D and just cruise. As long as it proves to be reliable DSG for me please. I'll miss you manual trans but progress is inevitable.

I wonder how much heavier that DSG or Tiptronic box is.
I also question reliability, especially with these high HP vehicles!

I refuse to see "point and shoot" driving as progress, no matter how quick the shifts are. I don't want to "put the car in D and just cruise."

Give me a 3rd pedal and a proper gearbox any day.

I don't mind it one bit. Look I love a manual trans as much as the next guy. It offers a conncection to the car that the DSG just can't quite match.

But the DSG is just as fast if not faster shifting than a manual trans and you get to control the shifts yourself.

Best of both worlds if you ask me.

I really don't want to start a flamewar (wow, great way to start a post) but...

I really hate that argument. If the automotive market went by that argument, manual transmissions would have died out long ago with automatic transmissions. I'm sure people were saying the same thing "It's the future". The major point is, manual transmissions are cheaper and simpler and as already pointed out, are probably lighter as well. I'm sure that's the big issue most automotive companies see when they decide to offer a manual transmission or not. I mean, almost every car model has a budget, low-end model which is offered with a manual transmission.

My point is, while DSG and the like are indeed very advanced and state-of-the-art, I highly doubt the standard manual transmission will ever disappear. If anything, the automatic transmission as we know it will be replaced.

I hope the manual trans sticks around forever but with DSG, you get all all the performance advantages of a manual with the ease and set it and forget it qualities of the automatic (when you want it anyway)

I'd have a manual trans car for the fun weekwend getaway car and a DSG trans for the daily commute.
