505 Intake Manifold COMPLETED!

I'd still love for someone with an N/A engine to try this and see if gains are possible or not...

I'd be willing to let my friend install mine first on his P5 if he wants to dyno to see if there is any gain. Only thing that would be a pain would be the egr but we could probably get away with just capping it for the dyno results.

Yeah it has been discussed. This manifold was purely designed for a FI car. It seems like people were saying that this car is actually the exact opposite of what you want for a NA car.

I was originally going to get one if he made a NA and then it came to intrest and no one showed it. So I moved to bigger ideas. It would need more R&D on top of these and longer runners for sure. You may see a gain NA but no where near what you could get if they were designed for NA.

^^^ To say this wouldn't be good on any N/A car isn't entirely correct. N/A power tends to be very peaky and intake and exhaust runner design determine where power is made. A longer intake runner isn't necessarily the best design. So technically this could be used in a N/A build as is, but you wouldn't be able to use an off-the-shelf exhaust manifold for best power. Just saying, I've been doing a lot of N/A research for my RX-7 :)

Either way, good to see these finally coming out!

I'm not saying it wouldn't make some HP but man, for the money that this cost and the HP you will receive you could easily get more hp with less money.

Agreed, but with an N/A build, everything costs money and every little HP counts. I have spreadsheet after spreadsheet with RX-7 plans and for essentially the same money I can have a 300 bhp N/A build or a 500+ bhp FI build. It just all comes down to what you want to do. I did FI with the P5 and that was fun, but I didn't like the lag associated with the turbo (to make big power you need a big turbo and with a little engine that means lag). I want to try something different with the RX-7.

Getting off topic now. I'm actually kind of sad I sold my P5 and spot in line before I had a chance to try this out. Such a good looking piece!

I just got off the phone with Rich. The initial stock intake manifold dyno is done. The car is back at the house now awaiting cool down so he can put on the new intake manifold. Dyno numbers and video will be posted later tonight.

I guess I missed the part of the thread where NA was discussed, but ya it would still be cool to see. Thanks for the info about why it would/would not make power. Of course, it would be better to test with a car that can breathe better (like mine for example), but I'm not exactly close to NM :(
Oh well, congrats Rich on getting these done after so long!!

Phew. Busy busy day. Too tired to post up all of the details but here is the jist...

I ran the car at low boost on the dyno. When I finally got it all ready to go the other day, I still just didn't want to put it on there. I had a bad bad feeling about this time... not sure why. 26 previous runs on there, and for whatever reason, I just felt like my luck had run out. Couldn't chance running the boost that I wanted to run to fully showcase this part.

So I ran it spiking 9 and holding just over 7 on the baseline runs. Wanted to give plenty of room for improvement without blowing my motor. I also threw in a run with the VICS and VTCS solenoids ziptied fully open.

Ended up pulling comparable numbers to the accelerometer. The bulk of the gain is from 4k up, but 2750-4k is right there with the stocker with no/minimal loss.

229 peak whp at what amounts to stock boost is pretty nasty. (rockon)

Charts and stuff coming tomorrow.

Lol you can't just say the gains on this vs the stocker?

Low 30 over stocker with working flappers. Mid 20 over stocker with tied open flappers. Results will vary with baseline power... I think miguel and his 400hp setup might make closer to 40-50.

If someone could actually tell me how to simply take a screenshot of winpep on the PC side of my bootcamped mac, I would be happy to share the chart. Until then, I have tried 4 different people, everyone has their own idea, and none of them work. lol. I would go all ghetto and take a cameraphone pic of my laptop, but nah.

Not sure I understand exactly, but to take a screenshot in Windows press the Print Screen button (could be labeled PrtScr or something, it's one of the three keys in the upper right by scroll lock usually) Then open an application (Word, Paint) and paste it. I think if you press shift or alt or ctrl and prtscr it will only capture the active window, if you just hit prtscr it will capture the entire desktop (startbar, systray, etc) Is that what you were asking?

Shift, open apple, F4.... this will give you a crosshairs... hold the keys down.... click the mouse once at one corner, drag to the other corner, then release.

Awesome! That's very impressive considering the boost level. I assume you changed the tune to compensate for the new manifold? Little-no loss down low eh? Again, impressive.
