Has anyone had this problem?
While shifting into 3rd imn my MSP, usually while te engin is cold it seems the 3rd gear syncro is not working and I just grind the gear. The clutch is fully depressed when this happens. I go to nutural let off the cluth then put full cluth back on to get into gear. If I dont let off the clutch again you just keep grinding. It only happens on 3rd. A buddy of mine said it happens on his DX sometimes. Am I going to be liable for parts and labor if my 3rd gear gets ground to a nub? I called my dealer and he said If They find no problems I would be responsible for labor costs!

well you really dont have to worry about your 3rd gear grinding to a nub, the damage will be the syncro itself

I had the same exact problem. Theres a TSB on it actually, your car may or may not have the updated parts though. One dealership bullshitted me and said it was completley normal for the car to do that. They said they would look at it and since there is nothing wrong, I would be held reponsible for the work and parts totaling ~$900. I got pissed and took it to another dealership with the TSB and told them not to touch it unless they were going to warranty it. They replaced the 2nd and 3rd gear synchros, and the shift fork and some bushings. The forst time I got the car back, the shifter was too loose and the grind was still there. So they replaced the 3rd gear this time and synchros again, and gave me new bushings and the gear is perfect now. My 2nd gear is acting up again though.

I know....but I was just making the point that I dont want to be liable for a problem I did not create. It has done this since I got it and the dealer cant get it to happen for them so they say there is no problem!

Yes you do, the grinding will eventually eat away at the gear. They replaced my syncrhos and the grinding was still there once the car warmed up and above a certain RPM, so they replaced the gear also. I also had to drive on that gear and demonstrate the problem about a hundred times at the first dealership and second one just to get them to look at it

Drive the car with their mechanic sitting in there. I did this and the mechanic said it was a syncro, but the service advisor BS'ed me because he thinks im too young to know about cars.

well if you look at the picture i am supplying gears are already in place, already spinning together, syncros are there to lock the gear for use, drive gears do not seperate from eachother. but for orngspd03 i would have the service tech with you in the car and drive it so he can hear it with you so he has no excuses
