Hey guys, sorry I havent really been posting progress on my engine buildup. Havent really been bugging my engine builder. Well he just sent me some pictures on the head work. So enjoy and I hope I get more soon.

can you give me the # to this guy...I'm saving up for a junk motor to rebuild. I would love to get this work done but I want a good shop to do it

Dunno what I'm looking for in the 2nd pic, but the head looks nice and cleaned out in the first pic there...glad to see progress.

I will give all info after the motor is done, we are kinda keeping low key right now, until the motor is done and tuned. We are trying to get everything just right and then come out with the the finished product. Hopefully going to hit one of the big import magazines when finished.

All i can really say is that it is a well known company, many 9 sec motors (Honda of Course) have come out of his shop. The reason its taking so long is that he is doing alot or research.

Oh he had just told me that he is deciding on injector size, 850cc or 950cc,

Remember man there are other fish in the sea. I'm not so sure you would want to send a motor to NV to get some work done on it. Try to find some places around your state. I'm sure there are equally talented engine builders in your area.

HOLY CRAP! I'd be curious to see how idle would be with 950cc injectors. Geez. has he mentioned smaller injectors (500cc or so) with higher fuel pressure?

actually no he hasnt mentioned any other injectors besides those.
we are going with minimum of 20psi

Oh the motor is being built in LA california

I figure once he knows what to do I can ship him the pieces one by one..It will take a while but it will get done right.

will you be going AWD with this or will you stick with FWD...may be a stupid question i know but it would be fun to create a sport20 AWD with 350-400whp.

I'm working with Corksport on this AWD conversion. I need to call them back because they told me it was a manual tranny, but I was under the impression that Mazda only made it in Auto. I'll call them tomorrow if I get a chance.

any idea on what the power limit would be on the AWD from the sport 20? i wonder if it could even put down 350-400 whp without blowing up.

Corksport doesn't know...they don't even know if the AWD will fit correctly on the US spec cars. No one has tried it yet. I'm trying to work something out with them. I'll try and keep everyone posted.

850cc or 950cc. dude sorry for being a dick but this guy is going to get you in trouble

if you plan on running it on the street tell him to follow what ive done on my setup or else youll probably be washing out the cylinders with fuel at idle and across the rpm band.
440 cc is good for 375hp and 80%duty cycle for the fs motor tuned at 43 psi on a piggyback or standalone.
500 cc for 400+.
we are using 8 injectors at a total of 510 cc's which we will never use. because we are staging them to pulse at different times the injector duty cycle for the secondaries will never reach 60%

again the injectors he is talking about is way to big.
i guarantee no matter what engine management you run it will never idle right if at all.
is this going to be for the street too or just the track.

And here is a picture of the lower block deburred
just out of curiousity but did you deburr the bottom of the block for an oil retention problem?
dont see that done too much anymore.

Yeah man..who is your builder??? 850cc and 950cc are impossible for street drivability. I had 550cc in my SOHC supercharged Civic with Accel DFI and it didn't idle worth a s***. We were also runing VP C16. What type of fuel management are you running??
Dude I have been in the same boat that you are in now. I was trying to have the fastest Supercharged SOHC Civic running 10's. I thought I would get in all the magazines. Man it is REAL hard and EXPENSIVE!!! I know you probablly don't wanna hear this...but 2 years ago I was doing the same thing. The shop that did all my work built Ed Burgenholtz and Ecko Functions motors. It takes a lot of hard work and $$$$$$. One other thing....tuning is a Biotch!!! Good Luck and be prepared for the worse. :D

Good luck with your project, but I'm a little confused here. Why? Why would you want to spen that kind of money to get your car to 350 to 400hp? I understand it if you are being sponsored by a company of some kind, but otherwise, it's pretty stupid to spend that kind of money on a Protege. To get the car to that level it will take a minimum of $15,000. Base car price is around $17,000, then add the $15,000, that comes to $32,000. ANd that's being conservative because the tuning and spare parts that will definetely be broken along the way. So why spent that much on such a cheap econobox? Why not get a 2000MY Audi TT or a Golf 1.8T for less than $18,000, then spend the $4500 on the APR stage 3 turbo kit that has an output of over 330hp on race gas.

Like I said, good luck with your project, but you are wasting your money.
