2's Resale Value Sucks

OK. Trading in a year old car always gets you bit in the ass. The dealer can't sell it for anywhere near the price of a new car since a new car is always way more desireable. Usually a new car also has a lower interest rate for those who finance.

Changing makes, also gets you bit. For example, what does a fairly new Kia on a Honda lot tell you? It says the original owner had problems or hated the car. Put a 'lemon' sign on it. Car dealers put other makes right up front for that reason.

My girlfriend just trade in her Fiesta (2011, 23000 KM) for a 2013 CX-5 All wheel drive with navigation system, Fogs, 17inch wheels, heating seats, windowed roof and blablabla... The dealer gave her 12K for it (The balance of the loan)

Thats what I got mine for....though I did pay an extra $500 to get the 0% financing.

Mine was 14,700 but they gave me 14,400 for my '09 Civic Si, so I only paid $300. Had I financed I probably could've gotten it even cheaper.

Nice...saved a bundle on taxes. Since I sold 3 vehicles privately (way too modified to trade in) and bought the 2 new ones for the wife and I within a month or so, I can certainly see how nice it must have been for a trade-in like that.

Got to drive an 11 wrx yesterday at an autocross. She does feel like a pig even moreso than than the 07 mazdaspeed3 I drove a few weeks prior (people keep letting me race their cars)...and I can still say the 2 is the most fun on the autox course although the other cars are obviously faster.

I think my STR miata was more fun, though I've only auto-xed the 2 stock so far. The STS2 CRX I had was very exciting with its tiny wheelbase. I certainly agree about the subaru...though my '03 WRX was far from a "pig" but it was just too easy to drive fast and wasn't very challenging to put up some fast times. Haven't driven any newer ones on track.

OK somehow this thread made a slight detour from resale value it seems!

The 2 wasnt fun stock as it was body roll city...the springs and some wider\stickier tires seems to have transformed the car....my total cost (170 for used springs and 75 for warn out rs2's and wheels=$245...I ....am....cheap)

Here are hard trade numbers for the 2 that I have gotten from HONDA dealers...

$12,000
$11,000
$6,000 (no ******* joke)

I managed my 2 + 1500.00, but that's for a kinda beaten up (interior stains and massive amounts of swirlmarks) demo model w/ 2600 miles (no thanks).

I owed $9500 on my 11 sport with 35,4xx miles on it. Had one Volkswagen dealer stuck on $7500, walked away from that and got $9000 from the other VW dealer in Omaha.

NO ONE is excited to take this car. They called other Mazda dealerships and were told 2012 Tourings are selling for $14500.00.

Just what I needed

I bought my new 2011 2 Touring (manual trans) for commuting 50,00 miles a year to work. It now has 75,000, no rattles, no squeaks and runs great! Over the last year I've added Eibach springs, Racing Beat muffler, Injen CAI, 949 racing 6UL wheels and Font Motorsport white gauges. It may not be the fastest car in it's class, but I think it looks better than most and FUN to drive. I like driving a car you don't see everybody else driving.

Why not keep dailying the 2 and use the money you save to buy a cheap RWD track/autox car instead? A 2 and a Miata would be a pretty awesome combo to have, or you could have an E30 like I have.

Yes my plan exactly! Got the 2, now just going to get an NA miata.

I'm glad to hear your car is holding up well. I bought my 2 to drive 30,000 miles a year to college and work. I have the Eibach springs and Racing Beat muffler too and love them. I kept my truck to pull the boat and drive in the snow and such and I have my RX7 to drink all of the gas the 2 saves..haha
