I appreciate your honesty here. Who gives you s*** about driving a 2? It seems like in my town NOBODY even second glances what you drive no matter what it is. The other drivers I see on the road just look like zombies coasting. I'm not sure if a Fit would make you feel like less of a dork.

I'd say the Fit is much dorkier.
Even when modified nicely is still doesn't have that hot hatch feel with it's weird shape. The Mazda 2 on the other hand definitely has a more traditional hatchback shape that makes it more appealing and hot hatch-ish when modified nicely. For me anyways.
For some reason the Fit's I've seen in Thailand look a lot sportier then they do here in the US. Different front bumpers maybe?
Im not the one wanting the fit. Im either going to a rx8\new 3\ or 11+ v6 mustang ;-)...dork factor removed.
Fam, if it makes you feel any better...some chick at my wife's work calls my car the "jolly rancher car." I've never been one to care how the car looks, which is why my last 3 cars were subarus. When I first got my wrx (an '03 "bugeye") I didn't like the way it looked, but it was wrx so I had to have it.
I have been thoroughly enjoying the 2. I miss the subarus' off-road prowess (the 2 got bounced around a bit on the gravel road I took to go hiking last weekend) and ground clearance (even when lowered there were no issues), but other than that I love this thing. Just barely big enough to do what I need it to, which is perfect. Not to mention good mpg's, fun to drive on the street, great for autocross, cheap to mod, and with spirited green it stands out so well that even the distracted/texting drivers will notice (that was the plan anyway). And I can't go fast enough to to get into too much trouble (had a bad rash of speeding tickets before I bought it, and an extra one shortly after).
And I'm definately a dork...my speakers are blaring kids music 1/2 the time. That stuff has a way of making it into your head and staying there. Pure evil.
One more thng....
Why isn't FRS/BRZ on your list (since you're also looking at rx8's, etc.)?

easy.....there are no cheap used one's yet. You can pick up a 09+ rx8 for 15k from a dealer with every option known to man.

Found a great deal on a 2010 speed3, wife threw the divorce card into play because ive only had the car 14 months and thinks I have a problem with buying cars...I was 10 bucks over previous payment...and im like...I just bought you a new d5000 because you broke your d3000, that cost alone is like 3 or 4 years worth the difference in my car payment...but she's crazy...so looks like im stuck in the 2 for a while (atleast until the spring when ive paid more on the 2)....I shall not be denied! Guess I will actually invest in some racing wheels\tires...make the best of the clown car.
Well that sucks you got denied. My wife was like "are you sure you want to get this car?" when I got the 2 since it is definately not my usual type of vehicle. Anyways...now you have an excuse to throw a few more mods on it to make it more enjoyable while you are stuck with it.

I don't think I will ever get rid of this car in fact I think I might get another 2 as long as the wife doesn't play the divorce card.
I feel very fortunate that my wife allows me to do whatever I want to to this car in fact she incourages it, however at the same time she's really cheap and does not like to spend money. But at the end of the day that's a good problem to have.

autocrossing for me....get to be gone all sunday...see fast cars...drive fast...but most importantly its the people there...occasionally I dont suck at it...but I do take some cool photos of some cars along the way. I should take up a hobby that involves moving as well...I do have a "national hooter inspector" card in my wallet...maybe that will get me motivated.

I managed my 2 + 1500.00, but that's for a kinda beaten up (interior stains and massive amounts of swirlmarks) demo model w/ 2600 miles (no thanks).
NO ONE is excited to take this car. They called other Mazda dealerships and were told 2012 Tourings are selling for $14500.00.

Actually I love autocross and mountain biking as well. I've been autocrossing since '99 or '00, but when I moved from south florida to north georgia 6 years ago I fell in love with the mountains and became a different person. I still love autocross, but mountain biking and especially whitewater kayaking really allow me to let go.
But with family comes responsibility, and instead of going autocrossing, biking, and kayaking all in one weekend every weekend...now I maybe get out once every month or 2, and I usually pick kayaking unless my wife wants to go mountain biking with me. I'm going to be seriously torn when my girls get a little older over what sports I try to expose them to.

Thats what I got mine for....though I did pay an extra $500 to get the 0% financing.
